Power Steering 2010 Chevy Malibu

Asked by Andrew Jan 13, 2020 at 03:15 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes when I start my 2010 Chevy Malibu the power
steering won't work and I have to turn my car off and back on
for it to work again. Also, while I'm stopped or parked the
steering wheel will slightly move back and forth. Does anyone
have an idea of what the problem is?

Sounds as if the belt needs to be adjusted or the pump pulley is not working

It appears you have electric power steering. Any applicable trouble codes? I saw some trouble codes for that system. To check codes, yourself, at the least you need an obd2 code reader that will work with your vehicle and read manufacturer specific codes. The codes I saw were co type codes. You need to get it diagnosed properly. I'd hate to see you throw parts at it and not fix it? see the two fuses in diagram? Check both of those, not only check the fuses, check voltage at the fuse with test light. One fuse is hot all the time, the other fuse goes hot with key on. Because you worked ignition switch and it started working, makes me wonder about ignition feed to that one fuse?
