How can you become a carguru?
Asked by migration_judge_roy Apr 22, 2013 at 06:59 PM about the 1961 Renault Dauphine
Question type: General
Busted on up to reputation score 14835 not because I've got information, but because I can track it
down, this thing the person asking the question cannot....it has been largely a matter of
understanding what is being asked fully, and the higher question of why is it this way? Grab a hold of
the question and search on it...the results that you decide are worth sharing will make you a carguru~
...(helps to be a bit of a smartypants too~)
Basically wanted to share that nothing gets a good man down...and will continue to stay with you as
long as the wife lets me off the hook, and my painting career isn't nagging at me to continue~
Whatever we decide to put out there must be helpful, if it's not helpful, no one will mark it "mark
helpful" and the points will go not to you~

the renault dauphine was in fact CHEAPER than the VW beetle in 1961. It featured a closed cooling system with NO radiator cap~

pull a hose, save the cost of the cap...now that's cheepness~

It's helpful, there isn't a button for "kinda helpful" or "Fire that guy"~

the three lug wheels of LeCar always stuck in my imagination? lordy why?
migration_judge_roy answered 11 years ago
could be a two-lug arrangement, one-lug would automatically be off balance but superior machining and 60degree locking tapers could make a two-lug wheel a reality~
The difference between the Beetle and the Daulphine is that the the Beetle could withstand interstate travel. The Renault would fry the pistons if you tried a long run at 80MPH. My uncle was a mechanic in Florida and had a used one in the mid 60's.

a five cylinder divides nicely into 72 degree segments, the three cylinder does not have dynamically opposed power strokes but stagged to make the motor humm, like a pump...these motors always sound curious, but they don't skimp on displacement, 'tis like a quart paint can each cylinder, they are remarkable~

five cylinder audi's also do not have opposing power, crank harmonics seem a bit wonky without the full-stroke intake/exhaust lining up with a harmonically opposed counterpart~

thermo-time switch on five cylinder on a Sunday, 'bout unemployed me~
Ford is coming out with a one liter three cylinder turbocharged engine. They were getting 35 mpg's even with flogging it. It worked best when the revs were kept above 2000 RPM.

a four passenger hauler that can do 75 without even breathin' hard....really?

the Toyota Prius gets 47mpg, and applies both electric and gasoline for superior acceration...topgear would not take it around the track because it could not do above 99, but what this vehicle does, it does well~

...after over 140,000 miles still smells like a new car and still gets 47 MPG....litefoot [my wife]~ changing a headlight is 'sneaky' for a five minute job or the asked for dropping the front of the car, bumpers to get at the headlight...requires upside-down on your back work (ya gotta be kiddin' me), but the dealership will charge you three hours labor for a sneaky-pete 5 minute job~
