I have a 1996 Toyota Caldina and the drivers door handle will not open from the outside.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The key still locks and unlocks the drivers door. I get in the car from another
door and pull the drivers handle from inside to open it.
The electric window will open to half way only -and there was a 'metal/glass
'crunch' sound.
Any light shed on this problem would be appreciated.  Thank you.

My brother removed the inside drivers door cover. Found a small broken plastic bracket that looked like it guided two rods (like thick wire), fallen down. Attempted to remove the door handle from the outside but it would not come off, so he cut the inside metal frame with some 'nibblers' so could access the back of the door handle. He twisted some wire around the end of the rod, which performed the same job as the broken bracket. Works perfectly now! Plus -a tip... if your old car key is not wanting to open the door every time -dribble a bit of CRC into the lock. Or sewing machine oil (it will make the key oily though). Works great!
