We have replaced the brushes
of the alternator and the
regulator.  The battery charges
at 12 but the battery light stays
on

The battery is suposed to charge at least at 13.5 volts to keep the battery charges. Check the charging amperage as well. Check the condition of the Diodes and other parts like the stater as well (Field coil). It might be an idea to have an auto electrician to look at it.
