took fanbelt off to pinpoint noise crank makes grinding noise when running and engine runs ruff

No. The Crank sensor doesn't touch anything and if it did, it wouldn't work at all - it's just a magnetic pick-up. Dragging starter? You could try using a stethoscope to pinpoint the noise - an old broom handle to the ear works too.
