On a Ford Windstar, what controls vent or defrost function....vacuum or motor or ???

Asked by Aug 15, 2015 at 12:09 PM about the 2003 Ford Windstar

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When you select defrost or change to vent or vice versa..... is this controlled by a vacuum line or is it a motor that changes direction of air.  And is the selection of heat or AC, controlled by a valve or motor or ??

OK, did my own homework. The airflow is controlled by a door in the air tunnel, directly behind the radio under the dash. I had to change the heater core and found the "pin" holding the door in place and pivots the door, had worked out of the holes. I reseated it, spread the end so it wont come out for a while, and now I have vent or defrost. Dumb design, but a simple fix.
