Could I put a 400 crankshaft into a 390 (Both ford motors.)
I have heard through the grapevine, to make a 390 a Stroker, you can put a 400
crankshaft into a 390. Now The question is, the 400 is a smallblock and the 390 is a
big block. Now I wanna put a stroker into my galaxie because its a badass car, and I
want a badass motor. And I seen this video on youtube and it was the same car with a
stroker. Got me excited if you know what I mean. This car has been my dads car, my
grandpa's car and I was born in the car. So if its possible, please, let me know. I want
my dad to be proud of it when he gets into it and has the g force shove him into the
seat. Its original California car with a 390/ c6 trans back up. Any advice, knowledge,
statistics, whatever would be great!
The bore spacing, or distance between the cylinders is different in the small block 400, it is 4.38" and the 360 and 390 is 4.63" and is NOT a big block. It's a medium block . The big block Fords have even more distance between cylinders, 4.9" The 360 and 390 have the same bore and the difference in cid is the stroke.
So does that mean that I can or can't put that crank into the 390?
No you can't. The 390 (FE Block) and the 400 small block are nothing alike and have no parts that will interchange.
Good looking car dirtydeeds460.
