2006 Chevrolet Corvette Trims and Specs

While not technically a convertible, the Corvette coupe body does feature removable roof panels. Coupe buyers have the choice between a transparent or solid color roof panel, or both. All Corvettes come well-equipped, with standard features like full power accessories, leather upholstery, xenon headlights and a seven-speaker Bose sound system. A DVD-based navigation system is optional.

Differentiation between the Corvette trim levels deals more with performance than features. The base model is powered by a 6.0 liter V8, which generates 400 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is the included transmission, but the base coupe and convertible may both be equipped with a new six-speed automatic for no additional charge. Traction and stability control (Corvette's Active Handling System) are also standard. The Active Handling System is able to detect any loss of traction or control, and responds by cutting power to the wheels that slip.

The 2006 Corvette lineup is divided into two trim levels, but the differences between the two are largely related to performance. The base model does not include sporting elements like the lightweight aluminum frame, wider tires and the ultra-firm suspension system, all found on the upper level Z06. The base model is eligible for Chevy's Z51 handling package, which upgrades the suspension, brakes and transmission.

The Z06 is the more athletic option in the 2006 Corvette lineup. The Z06 gains performance-oriented features like a lightweight aluminum frame, wider wheels and tires, a firmer suspension setup, more powerful ventilated disc brakes and special sport seats.

Under the hood, the Z06 houses a potent 7.0 liter V8, which churns out an impressive 505 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The six-speed manual is the only transmission available with this engine.

All Vettes come equipped with xenon headlights, leather upholstery, a seven-speaker Bose audio system and automatic climate control. Options include a DVD-based navigation system and Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
