The Toyota Camry Solara was fully redesigned in 2004, and this model year brings little change. Minor interior enhancements on the SE convertible are the only piece of news for 2005.
This SE is the base trim for the Solara lineup, and this four cylinder-equipped model is the entry point. The Solara SE comes standard with full power accessories, cruise control, steering wheel-mounted controls, keyless entry, and a CD audio system.
There are two available engines for the Solara. The base engine, found on this SE, is a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four which delivers 157 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmission are both available. No manual transmission is offered with the V-6.
The Solara evoled from the Camry Coupe, which was not one of Toyota's top-selling models. The Solara offered distinctive styling and a sportier affect, and sales have steadily increased. Test drivers recommend finding one with a stick, if you're seeking the most invigorating driving experience.

A full redesign in 2004 finished the Solara coupe with a more aggressive presentation, as Toyota aimed to further differentiate the the car from the Camry, which is built from the same platform. There are no changes for the 2005 model year.
The addition of the V-6 engine provides a substantial power boost, but unfortunately a manual transmission is not available with this power plant. The 3.3 liter V-6 generates 210 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque, and it is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy for this engine is observed at 20/28 mpg.
The SE represents the first trim tier for Solara, but are models are considerably well-equipped. Keyless entry, full power accessories, a CD sound system and cruise control are all included.
Many owners have commented on the smooth-shifting operation of the refined five-speed automatic, but the outcry for a V6/manual pairing is substantial. The Solara also earns considerable praise for the sharp looking interior and superior build quality.
