Write a reviewThe Toyota Solara was introduced in 1999 to provide coupe and convertible alternatives to the top-selling Camry sedan. The Solara had its genesis in the mid-1990s Camry Coupe, but that model was dropped after 1997. The new Solara offered a greater departure from Camry styling and mechanics. While the platform is still the same, the coupe features a sleeker roof line and unique front and rear styling. The Solara also uses a tightened suspension and a firmer steering system. The Toyota coupe undergoes a mid-second generation styling refresh for 2007, marked by noticeable revisions to both the front and rear ends. Toyota has also added safety items like a tire pressure monitor and side curtain airbags. New options include Bluetooth and a voice-activated navigation system. The Solar is available as a coupe or a convertible, and each body is offered in three trim levels. The SE is the well-equipped base model and Sport in the mid-level performance-oriented trim. The SLE provides an upscale finish, adding wood trim, power leather seats, and a premium JBL audio system. Two engine options are offered. The standard power plant is a 2.4 liter four cylinder which provides 157 horsepower and 158 pound-feet of torque. The larger engine is a 3.3 liter V-6, generating 210 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The four cylinder is available with either a five speed manual or five speed automatic transmission. The V-6 can only be paired with the automatic. Fuel efficiency is 21/29 mpg for the V-6, and 25/34 mpg with the four. Expectations of the Solara as a true sport coupe may lead to some disappointment. Toyota has excelled at blending a variety of desirable features like safety, comfort, reliability, and refinement into all of its cars, and the Solara is no different. However, lackluster performance has steadily been the most common complaint from drivers.

Nice car. Not sure if its this one or one just like it I took to my mechanic for inspection prior to purchase. He charged me $150 but spent a lot of time and gave me a lot of good information. The engine and transmission were fine. However, underneath the car he detected multiple leaks. The suspension needed replacing and he didnt feel it would be completely safe until that happened. So, yes it is an old car and I anticipated some repair, but this was too much to consider. Because of this experience, I hesitate to consider this make and model as a possible purchase So Im looking at other other options like VW Eos Convertible but will not purchase any used vehicle without mechanic inspection.May 25, 2024

This particular vehicles interior was about as totally trashed as could be.
The dashboard needs to be completely redone. The hot sun has really ravaged the dashboard.
The drivers seat also needs to be redone. Its ripped and worn in several areas.
The front passenger seat is going to need repair or replacement, especially if you want it to match the drivers seat after its replaced.
The rear seating areas are okay as is. Clearly, there werent many people who rode back there. Its not what youd call a roomy back seat.
The carpeting is quite dirty, and probably would justify being replaced, because its just well-worn.
The convertible top isnt long for this world. It looks like its the original top.
The body was straight with the exception of one minor dent, which could possibly be repaired without the need for a respray.
Mechanically, the car seemed to be quite good, with just the hint of noise under the hood.
It sounded to me like perhaps a pulley or tensioner needed some lubrication.
The engine felt smooth and strong.

We have Toyota people since 1990. My dream was to always have a convertible. Of some sort. As we got older it was very apparent that a two seater type sports car would not be a good idea. We found the Solara on Craigs list and it only had 33k miles on it, my favorite color, and it’s a Toyota! We love it! Comfortable, lots of options, and the price was doable. Apr 18, 2022

I don’t know what to compare it to. It is the best car I ever had. Comfortable, pick up if needed, looks good, runs good, lasts a long time. I sold my 2006 to a cousin. It had over 100,000 miles. He is still driving and has had no problems. It is a great car!May 05, 2021

These older cars are missing backup display and blind spot monitors. This can be an issue once you are dependent on those features. The Solara is good for running around in while in Florida

Look, this is a 13 year old car with 155000 miles on it. Having said that...so far, I love it! 1. Its a TOYOTA! 2. If I floor it, it goes like a bat out of hell! 3. Since Im an old guy, I dont floor it and Im getting almost 30 mpg. It looks way better than the Camry that I now have for sale, rides real nice and my gf isnt ashamed to be seen in it. Car looked OK. Started it cold and sounded like it had a bearing noise until it warmed up. At 60mph on the test drive, the front end was very loose. Tires were unbalanced, needed a front end alignment and maybe more. With the top up, could barely see out of the rear window. The inside top was separating from the top and covering some of the rear window. Drove like a very tired car. Honestly, I cant see why a Lexus Dealer was selling a car of such poor quality just to make a few bucks, while putting their franchise name on the line. Just my opinion.Jan 26, 2020

There's nothing I don't like about this vehicle... other than I haven't owned it sooner! It gets excellent gas mileage - is fun to drive - and she doesn't stay parked long! The most standard options for a convertible in comparative models. The nicest interior with lots of standard options that you pay additional for in others. Navigation System & Stability Control are options available, which are not even offered on the others in the same price range. Toyotas keep their value much better than others. I have 2007 Toyota Solara with about 178k miles that is in pretty good condition. I've always done my best to stay on top of maintenance but today after driving around for a few hours and leaving my car parked for about 4 hours I turned it on and it was suddenly vibrating and when I put the car in drive my vsc, trac off, and check engine lights came on. I haven't experienced anything like this before with this car and a lot of the things I'm seeing online don't mention their cars shaking in park. I don't hear any clicking on my passenger side which I've read would be the engine mounts but I'm just wondering what this could possibly be?

a family member recently broke down on the freeway in his 2007 toyota solara, his water pump pulley broke and the serpintine belt fell off and he continued trying to drive the car since he was only 20 miles away from home. so no serpintine belt means his power steering stopped working his battery was no longer being charged and the engine was no longer cooling itself and he droive it until it just died. my question is what kind of damage is he looking at? I am thinking his engine is done cause there was oil all over the underside of his hood and coolant was empty as well. i think i know the answer but would like a second opinion before starting repairs on his car
