Toyota made no changes to the Camry Solara for 2008, fueling rumors that this will be the last year for the well-built but somewhat dated sport coupe. Like many vehicles in Toyota's lineup, the Camry Solara has lots of fans, who praise its smooth, solid ride, its mechanical refinement, its many safety features, and its comfortable and quiet interior. But other drivers and reviewers consider the Solara underwhelming in both power and design, especially when compared to sport coupes offered by competitive automakers.
Like the previous year's model, the 2008 Camry Solara does not lack for features. Antilock brakes, an advanced airbag system, a direct tire-pressure monitoring system, remote keyless entry, integrated fog lamps, high solar-energy-absorbing glass, and an AM/FM stereo system with an in-dash six-disc CD changer are just some of the Camry Solara's standard features, while options include Bluetooth and a voice-activated navigation system.
The Camry Solara borrows its underpinnings and basic design from the standard Camry sedan, but adds a sleeker roofline, a tighter suspension, and a more responsive steering system. Drivers can choose from SE, Sport, and SLE trim versions, as well as coupe and convertible models. The convertible features a power-retractable fabric top with a glass rear window.
Power for the 2008 Camry Solara comes in the form of a 157-horsepower, 2.4-liter VVT-i four-cylinder engine or a 210-horsepower, 3.3-liter VVT-i V6. Both engines link to either a five-speed manual overdrive transmission or a five-speed automatic.

I had a 2001 toyota solara sle and took it in for regular maintenance in 2019 I had 250000 miles on it before a head on collision totaled it. After a long recovery the only car I will ever own will be a toyota solara I own. In fall of 2019 after searching across the country I found a 2008 convertible solara sle with 136000, I have done regular maintenance and now have 230000. My only issue is needing top replaced due to manufacturers defect. I pray my car last for years to come and if not I will definitely find another one to purchase Nov 17, 2023

Great car to have for fun. You get a fun convertible that you can cruise in thats also going to last you forever! I have purchased two of these for my mom and they are very fun. People forget Toyota ever made these. The engine is a V6 that is so quiet you cant hear it with the top down. Gas mileage is pretty good too. I was disappointed in the mechanical condition AS I Paid above and it was inspected but a rear wheel bearing was easily noticed as being bad right from the start and the roof leaked badly.Apr 28, 2022

In my opinion, the Toyota Camry Solara SLE convertible is the best car ever manufactured by Toyota; and that is saying a lot. The high-performance standard V-6 engine alone places it above most of the competition. Unlike the BMW and Mercedes convertibles with hard-tops, the Solara has a full complement of trunk space with the top down. And that is a large amount of space! (Several full size suitcases and more.) Also the car has a comfortable back seat for two passengers which cannot be said for most convertibles. Being an older car it still utilizes buttons and knobs, thus not complicating the use of radio/heating/cooling; meaning one doesnt have to take ones eyes off the road to perform those simple tasks. Other features include: a top that opens and closes very quickly, and a beautiful leather interior.Jun 24, 2021

Hated when my 2004 TOyota Solara convertible with only 60,000 miles on it was totaled last year! Absolutely loved this vehicle. SPorty looking and loads of room! Looking to purchase another one with low miles.
The 2008 has better rear viewing ability than did the 2004.
Not only is their plenty of room to haul things but it was a real pleasure to drive...

My problem was my wife yelled at me for buying a new car! She would not believe since it looked so good and rode so smooth that it was used. I had to show her the odometer (thats not enough for a 14 year old car!) and the owners manual. I got a cream puff of a car. It has navigation but no back-up camera. Ive been looking for well over two years for a good, affordable, used car that would last with care...also have a bit of fun. The toyota coupe, that they dont make anymore, does so nicely with its strong 6 cyl engine, 4 wheel disc brakes, SLE trim package. I got the car of my dreams...or close enough! Nov 22, 2020

Leather heated seats are a must in winter. It's easy to clean by hand since it's a convertible. It's great for a joy ride or Sunday drive. It's stylish. Maintenance costs are average. It's very fun to drive and the braking and acceleration are on par with this powerful model series. The fuel economy is above average between 26 and 28 miles per gallon. We had a 2004 Solara Convertible SE. Decided we loved the cars safety features and comfort so we bought this 2008 SLE to take us into our retirement/re-living years. Even picked this car over our 2010 Toyota Prius (which is for sale). We followed our heart instead of logic (better gas mileage w/Prius) but Jake gets over 30 mpg on the highways. Not bad for a V6. I was a little hesitant to buy a foreign car given my family's GM back ground, but I am thoroughly impressed with the quality and performance of this vehicle. My father(30 year GM Guy) even approves. This car is really fun to drive. It is high performance, and very sporty. The gas mileage is awesome, and I love all the great little extras it has, like the 6 disc changer, moonroof, and leather interior. My fiance and I are both so happy with this car that he is also looking into buying a Toyota. The timing belt is the only big thing that I am aware of that is a major thing for up keep. this car handles horribly. i sometimes feel like i get better handling in my yukon. this car is also slow, and i was really disappointed in the lack of power this v6 seems to have. build quality is pretty good, though. but this car is really ugly, it sometimes makes me sick to drive it. add to the fact that this is a boring drive, and i guess that means that i wouldn't recommend it. good gas mileage, though.Oct 20, 2008
