I have replaced the radiator and the thermostat. And yet it still over heats . how do I fix this issue so I can make my kids drs. Appointments..

Another generation, another redesign. The 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan still accounted for 25% of the minivant market, but its once heralded affordability was being challenged by competition from Honda and Toyota, which offered more amenities, and better reliability and crash test ratings for the money than the Caravan.
The 2001 Grand Caravan dropped the LE trim, offering SE as its base model, followed by a Sport and ES trim. The ES, top-of-the-line performance model, along with its standard 3.8-liter, 215-hp V6 (a 35-hp upgrade from last year) engine, also was the only trim to offer the auto-manual AutoStick transmission, which provided responsive shift controls. The Grand Caravan ES also offered another minivan first, an optional power liftgate, making it the first minivan with three power doors. The SE and Sport trims came standard with the 3.3-liter, 180-hp V6 (a 22-hp upgrade), paired with a four-speed automatic. Sport and ES models featured ABS standard with optional power side doors. A new EX trim offered the same features as the ES, but not as many options, and was more affordable.
Inside, a removable center console could be placed either between the front or second row seats. For extra storage in the cargo area, a pop-up bin with center divider was added. Legroom was extended for front row passengers.
With the V6 engine, the 2001 Grand Caravan has a good amount of power, and its ride is relatively smooth and responsive. Most drivers make a point of mentioning how fun and comfortable it is to drive and how roomy and well-thought out the interior is. Criticisms center on repair problems and poor reliability, compared to other brands, not enough second row legroom, and a bulky rear seat that requires more than one person to remove. The third row of seats also do not fold flat into the floor.

It got good gas mileage on the highway, but in the city it sucked. I would have to put gas in it every couple of days if I wasn't filling it up.
But the cargo and passenger space was awesome, there was enough room for everything a family of five could through at it.Jul 02, 2014

I love the Grand Caravan. This is one of the most reliable family vehicles that I have ever owned. We have put ours through hell and it keeps going. Just keep up the regular maintenance and it won't let you down.Jul 02, 2013

I am the second owner of this Dodge Grand Caravan, I had it since 03, I bought it with approximately 60K miles on it, the mileage is highway miles as I used back and forth to work every day. The van is not perfect, but it is very solid and reliable.Jun 05, 2013

good reliable transportation. in for oil change regularly......heating system a bear at 150k plus radiator was is tricky if you need yours fixed be sure to get a ground strap run...seems to short out and cause electrolysis rusting holes prematurely..found that out on my 2nd replacement Feb 08, 2012

I like it. I'm a Chrysler Corp/Mopar fan. Treat them right, and they will run forever. Check belts and hoses regularly, change the oil at least every 4000 miles, if something small is wrong, fix it before it turns into something big. Look around for a good used rig; you'll probably get a great deal because people don't appreciate what good cars and trucks Chrysler Corp has been making the past 15 to 20 years so they can be had cheaply. Don't buy one that hasn't been taken care of and fixed properly, and then complain because it's "junk". Be critical and careful going in, find one that's been care for and appreciated by the previous owner, and it will serve you well.Nov 22, 2011

It is really nice, and it has lots of room. easy to drive. It performs well, and the gas mileage is ok. cloth seats. it is pretty fun to drive. Only problem with it is that it doesnt heat up fast.Dec 22, 2010

its just a minivan.....its use is primarily for family transport. it doesn't do well on steep snowy hills, it has a moderate rate of fuel consumption, very comfortable interior, all around parts seem to be available and low priced. the only repairs I've needed to do were normal routine maintenance, and tires. not a very fun car to drive but it's very practical for families. dodges are nice to look at. that's all you'll be doing after it's towed to your driveway. LOTS of problems with both dodges i owned. both cars had transmission and electrical problems, but the paint lasts forever. i also owned an intrepid.Sep 05, 2009

An ok car, better than any GM or Ford or GM minivan in appearance and engines, but a lot worse that any Japanese minivan in any other area. Performance is lame, engine has good torque for towing, but bad pedal feel and incredibly soft handling make it gross to drive. Quite inside, but cold vinyl and unsupportive yet comfy seats make it a pain to drive. The styling is one of a million, but if you like jelly beans, it's for you. It's cheap till something stupid breaks,but fixes are expensive yet often in stock. Not fun to drive. A great long term driver, but around town it sucks. Great for hauling kids or lumber, and cheaper than a SUV. Buy if it's in you budget, but consider a Toyota, Kia, Honda, or Nissan first. Jan 10, 2009

I owned a used Dodge Caravan several years ago and loved it! This one I have had for 2 years, bought used for 7K, and have put 3K into it. Nothing but problems: I had it in the shop 5 times last spring and summer before they fixed my ac (which ended up only working for a few months), I dealt with it until now (May in FL) and am about to start going through another bout with trying to get it fixed. I have had to fix brakes, rack and pinion, manifold gasket, intake manifold bolt, valve cover gasket, and many other things on this car. Very unhappy, but I don't think it will stop me from purchasing another one in the future. Great family vehicle.May 21, 2008

It's a Dodge, so I don't have high expectations. With that in mind, it has exceeded my expectations. We bought it only because of the lower cost compared to Nissan, Honda, etc. So far, the gamble has paid off since we haven't had any problems with it coming up on 78,000 miles.Jan 22, 2008
