Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

Compared to midsize sedans, compact crossover SUVs offer more interior room, a taller driving position, easier entry and exit, and more models offer all-wheel drive (AWD). Their extra ground clearance helps you through snow or to scramble down a trail, too. They literally leave sedans in the dust, though they’re usually more expensive, get worse fuel economy, and handle less securely. Nevertheless, Nissan adds a value-packed 2025 Altima SV Special Edition Package to the lineup to drum up interest in its fading family car.

Verdict: Is the 2025 Nissan Altima a good car? It has terrific front seats, available AWD, and SL and SR Premium Package models offer competitive technology. Otherwise, it simply doesn’t have what it takes to attract customers better served by other midsize cars.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

6/10

2025 Nissan Altima

7/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima presented a balanced design that was visually appealing without being overly extravagant. It offered a range of trims, including the new SV Special Edition, which combined aesthetic enhancements like black wheels and a rear spoiler with technological upgrades. The SR trim, which was tested, featured sporty elements such as 19-inch wheels and a sport suspension, though it was limited to the standard engine as the more powerful VC-Turbo engine was discontinued. The Altima's pricing ranged from $27,000 to $33,330, with the test model priced at $34,580 due to additional features. The Tactical Green paint and optional bronze wheels garnered attention in Los Angeles, though opinions on the color varied. The interior, lacking the SR Premium Package, was unremarkable, with low-grade plastics and visible foam insulation detracting from the overall finish.

The 2026 Audi A6, while not as visually striking as some competitors, maintained a handsome appearance with its signature "singleframe" grille and Quattro-inspired fender flares. The A6 featured programmable LED headlights and taillights, though the symbols for different functions were not easily distinguishable. Available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims, the A6 offered various packages for enhanced sportiness, such as the S Line Black Optic Package and Sport Plus Package. The interior, despite options like the Audi Exclusive Design Package, was criticized for its bland materials. The A6's design focused on subtlety and sophistication, appealing to those who preferred understated elegance over flashy details.

Performance

2026 Audi A6

6/10

2025 Nissan Altima

7/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima was equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque with front-wheel drive. Opting for all-wheel drive reduced output slightly to 182 hp and 178 lb-ft. The continuously variable automatic transmission provided a smooth, if unremarkable, driving experience. The Altima's handling was balanced, though the steering lacked precision, and the brakes could overheat with aggressive driving. Fuel economy was decent, with the AWD model achieving 28.3 mpg in testing, though the lack of a hybrid option limited its appeal for those seeking maximum efficiency.

The 2026 Audi A6 featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro all-wheel drive. This setup allowed the A6 to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, outperforming base models of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. The A6's handling was enhanced by brake-based torque vectoring and an optional sport rear differential, though the Sport Plus Package's suspension changes compromised ride comfort. The A6 excelled in highway driving, though tire noise on rough surfaces detracted from its premium feel.

Form and function

2025 Nissan Altima

8/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima offered a comfortable interior, with front seats designed to reduce fatigue on long drives. The back seat was roomy enough for adults, though rear air conditioning vents were absent in the SR trim. The Altima provided ample storage space, with a 15.4 cubic-foot trunk and the ability to expand cargo volume by folding the rear seats.

The 2026 Audi A6, despite being longer than its predecessor, did not significantly improve passenger space. The panoramic glass roof increased front-seat headroom, but rear-seat dimensions remained similar. The A6 offered climate controls and USB-C ports for rear passengers, with heated rear seats available on higher trims. The trunk, with 13.5 cubic feet of space, was smaller than some competitors but featured split-folding rear seats for added versatility.

Technology

2026 Audi A6

5/10

2025 Nissan Altima

7/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima came with two infotainment options. The standard system included an 8-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while higher trims offered a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity and additional features. The basic sound system was adequate, but the nine-speaker Bose system was reserved for the SL trim.

The 2026 Audi A6 introduced the Digital Stage setup, with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. The MMI infotainment system was criticized for its oversimplified layout, though voice recognition and wireless smartphone integration were standard. An optional Bang & Olufsen audio system featured headrest speakers for navigation directions. Audi planned to update the interface mid-year, adding features like an integrated dashcam.

Safety

2026 Audi A6

2025 Nissan Altima

6/10

The 2025 Nissan Altima's SL trim offered advanced safety features, including ProPilot Assist 1.0 and a surround-view camera system. Standard safety features included forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring. The Altima received a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA but performed poorly in some IIHS tests.

The 2026 Audi A6 included standard driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning. Higher trims added features like a 360-degree camera system and adaptive cruise assist. The A6's lane-centering feature was less effective, and crash-test ratings were unavailable at the time of writing.
