Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

It’s been almost half a decade since Honda introduced this latest Civic. That’s hard to believe, because this car has aged with remarkable grace. After a mild update for the 2025 model year, the 2026 Civic lineup carries over unchanged. It continues to offer sedans and hatchbacks, with or without hybrid power. Sporty Si and performance-tuned Type R variants are also available, but Honda still doesn’t offer the Civic with all-wheel drive. Does that matter? Seemingly not, because the Civic is Honda’s second-best-selling car (behind the CR-V), and one of the top-selling compact cars in America.

Verdict: You’ll pay a premium to buy a Honda Civic. In many ways, it’s worth the extra money. In others, not so much. Still, while there are better deals in the compact car class, few are as satisfying to drive, and that’s true even when the Civic is equipped with its base engine.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

9/10

2026 Honda Civic

7/10

The 2026 Honda Civic lineup was diverse, offering sedans and hatchbacks with both gas-only and hybrid powertrains, as well as performance variants like the Si and Type R. Prices ranged from $25,790 to $34,690, excluding the Type R, which had not been priced for 2026 at the time. The Civic Sport sedan, tested in Meteorite Gray with black cloth seats, had an MSRP of $27,790. Despite its basic nature, the Civic Sport did not feel cheap, although its retro infotainment system and shedding carpeted floor mats were drawbacks. However, the Civic Sport's 18-inch wheels and shiny exhaust tip added a sporty touch, while the interior's metal honeycomb mesh, piano black plastic, and metallic accents elevated the cabin's appearance. The ergonomic layout and intuitive controls were highlights, making the Civic's design nearly perfect.

The 2026 Audi A6, like the smaller A5, was handsome but not visually striking. Its design featured a lower "singleframe" grille, Quattro-inspired fender flares, and a ribbed lower door skin, offering subtle definition. The A6's LED headlights had a pixelated effect with programmable signatures, while the taillights were repositioned to accommodate programmable lights for different icons. The A6 was available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims, with the S Line Black Optic Package adding sporty elements. The Audi Exclusive Design Package offered two-tone Nappa leather seats, but the interior materials felt bland and cheap, even in top-spec models.

Performance

2026 Honda Civic

7/10

The 2026 Honda Civic offered five sedan models, with the LX and Sport featuring a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 150 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. This engine, paired with a CVT and paddle shifters, powered the front wheels, with driving modes including Normal, Sport, and Econ. The hybrids used Honda's Two Motor Hybrid powertrain, known for its power and efficiency. The Civic Sport, while underpowered during acceleration, provided a respectable 31 mpg city, 39 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined. Its driving dynamics were commendable, with precise steering and a well-tuned suspension, though road noise was a downside.

The 2026 Audi A6 featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering 362 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro AWD. This engine made the A6 feel energetic, though the transmission hesitated under heavy throttle. The A6's handling was neutral, with brake-based torque vectoring and an optional sport rear differential. The Sport Plus Package included a lower ride height and rear-axle steering, enhancing handling but compromising ride quality. The A6's steering was precise, though the artificial heft in Dynamic mode was noticeable. Overall, the A6 excelled on highways but was less suited for twisty roads.

Form and function

2026 Audi A6

2026 Honda Civic

The 2026 Honda Civic's seats were initially flat and unsupportive, though they became tolerable over time. An adjustable thigh bolster would have improved comfort, and more seat track travel was needed for taller drivers. The rear seats offered excellent leg support and room, with a generous door opening for easy access. Storage was ample up front, with a roomy 14.8-cubic-foot trunk and 60/40-split folding rear seats for added utility. However, the trunk lid lacked a grab handle, leading to dirty fingers when closing it.

The 2026 Audi A6 was 2.4 inches longer than its predecessor, but the wheelbase remained the same, offering no additional passenger space. The panoramic glass roof increased front-seat headroom, while rear-seat headroom and legroom were comparable to a BMW 5 Series. Rear-seat occupants enjoyed climate controls and USB-C ports, with heated rear seats available on higher trims. The trunk offered 13.5 cubic feet of space, more than a CT5 or E-Class but less than a 5 Series. The A6's conventional trunk and split-folding rear seats provided versatility.

Technology

2026 Audi A6

5/10

2026 Honda Civic

7/10

The 2026 Honda Civic's standard 7-inch digital instrumentation and infotainment system were simple, with larger displays available on higher trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto required a cable connection, adding clutter. The Sport trim's audio system had eight speakers, while the Si and Hybrid Sport Touring featured a 12-speaker Bose setup.

The 2026 Audi A6 introduced the Digital Stage setup with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.5-inch touchscreen. The MMI infotainment system was oversimplified, with small text and inconvenient pop-up menus. Audi planned a mid-year interface upgrade, adding a dashcam and new steering wheel. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system featured headrest speakers for navigation directions.

Safety

2026 Honda Civic

6/10

The 2026 Honda Civic came standard with Honda Sensing, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert were available on the Sport trim. The Civic earned a five-star overall rating from the NHTSA, with four-star frontal impact and five-star side impact and rollover resistance ratings.

The 2026 Audi A6 included adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and more. Premium Plus and Prestige trims added park-assist, adaptive cruise assist, and a 360-degree camera system. The lane-centering feature allowed some wobble, but robust driver monitoring was included. Crash-test ratings were unavailable at the time of writing.
