Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

The Mini Cooper is redesigned for 2025 with a host of alterations throughout. It’s a little bigger inside and out, while sporting all-new infotainment tech and quirky interior design to help maintain the badge’s fun personality. It still weighs less than 3,000 pounds, too, and when combined with a potent turbocharged four-cylinder in the Cooper S, that makes for some truly hilarious fun-to-drive attitude.

Verdict: Although substantially larger than the original BMW Mini that reached America’s shores in 2002, and no longer offering a manual transmission as standard, the new Mini Cooper continues to be a stylish and fun-to-drive way of getting around, and will even return solid overall fuel economy in the process.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

8/10

2025 MINI Cooper

7/10

The 2025 MINI Cooper retained its iconic silhouette, making it instantly recognizable despite subtle updates. The halo-ring headlights, distinctive front bumper, and grille were among the few changes, while the taillights, arranged like a split Union Jack flag, added a unique touch. The interior was refreshed with new materials, including a tweed sport coat-resembling dashboard and a panoramic sunroof standard on four-door models. The 9.4-inch touchscreen incorporated most controls, though some traditional switchgear remained. The cloth seats matched the dash and offered good side bolstering and heating, with faux leather as an optional upgrade. Overall, the MINI Cooper's materials quality was commendable for a subcompact hatchback, and the quirky pop-up head-up display added a touch of charm.

The 2026 Audi A6, while not as visually striking as some competitors, maintained a handsome appearance with its lower, more pronounced singleframe grille and Quattro-inspired fender flares. The LED headlights featured a pixelated effect with programmable signatures, and the taillights were repositioned to accommodate programmable lights for different icons. Available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims, the A6 offered a sportier S Line Black Optic Package and a Sport Plus Package with 21-inch wheels. The interior, however, was criticized for its bland materials, even in top-spec models, though an Audi Exclusive Design Package offered two-tone Nappa leather seats. Despite these options, the A6's interior failed to impress in terms of luxury feel.

Performance

2026 Audi A6

8/10

2025 MINI Cooper

7/10

The 2025 MINI Cooper featured a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The base model produced 161 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, while the Cooper S offered 201 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, both with front-wheel drive. The Cooper S could accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, while the base model took 7.4 seconds. The driving experience was lively, with the engine feeling more powerful than its numbers suggested, and the dual-clutch gearbox provided seamless shifts. The ride quality was enthusiast-centric yet comfortable, and the handling was precise, making it a joy to drive on twisty roads. However, the lack of paddle shifters and a manual option was a downside.

The 2026 Audi A6 was powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro all-wheel drive. This setup allowed the A6 to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, outperforming base models of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. The A6's handling was enhanced by brake-based torque vectoring and an optional sport rear differential, though the latter only made a noticeable difference when pushed hard. The Sport Plus Package included a lower ride height and rear-axle steering, but the trade-off in ride comfort was significant. The A6 excelled on highways, but its handling was better suited for straight-line stability than aggressive cornering.

Form and function

2026 Audi A6

2025 MINI Cooper

8/10

The 2025 MINI Cooper, despite its subcompact size, offered a surprisingly spacious interior. With 47 cubic feet of space up front and over 32 cubic feet in the back, the boxy shape provided ample room. Cargo space expanded from 8.9 cubic feet to 33.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The driving position was comfortable, with a head-up display that allowed for a low steering wheel position. Ingress and egress were generally easy, though the extended steering wheel could limit access.

The 2026 Audi A6, while 2.4 inches longer than its predecessor, did not see an increase in passenger space. The panoramic glass roof added two inches of front-seat headroom, but rear-seat headroom and legroom remained unchanged. The A6 offered comparable space to the BMW 5 Series, with climate controls and USB-C ports for rear passengers. The trunk, with 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats, provided 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space, more than a CT5 or E-Class but less than a 5 Series.

Technology

2026 Audi A6

2025 MINI Cooper

7/10

The 2025 MINI Cooper's Operating System 9 infotainment system, while visually appealing, was plagued by lag and required frequent re-pairing of smartphones. The head-up display needed constant readjustment, and a flickering interior light suggested software issues. Standard features included Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and dual-zone climate control, with several USB-C outlets throughout the cabin.

The 2026 Audi A6 featured the Digital Stage setup with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. An optional 10.9-inch front-passenger touchscreen addressed the main screen's driver-centric tilt. The MMI infotainment system was criticized for its oversimplified layouts and small text, though voice recognition and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard. Audi planned a mid-year interface upgrade, but early models couldn't be retrofitted. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system included headrest speakers for navigation directions.

Safety

2026 Audi A6

7/10

2025 MINI Cooper

6/10

The 2025 MINI Cooper came standard with Safe Exit function, pedestrian detection, and forward-collision warning. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist were available as part of the Active Driving Assistant package. However, the adaptive cruise control was slow to respond, and the car had a recall for its integrated braking system. Crash-test ratings were not available at the time of writing.

The 2026 Audi A6 included standard driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and blind-spot monitors. Premium Plus and Prestige trims added park-assist, adaptive cruise assist, and a 360-degree camera system. The lane-centering feature allowed for some lane wobble, but robust driver monitoring was included. Crash-test ratings were not available at the time of writing.
