Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

A relative bargain in the premium midsize car segment, the 2025 CT5 sedan receives several changes to keep it appealing. Mostly, they pertain to technology, and the new 33-inch display containing digital instrumentation and a new infotainment system is the most obvious manifestation of that. In addition, the CT5 gets more standard and available safety features and driver assistance tech, AKG audio, new front-end styling, and a couple of new paint colors.

Verdict: Despite the updates for 2025, the Cadillac CT5 is starting to look and feel like an older car. Also, compared to its rivals, it lacks polish and refinement. However, it is a bargain when cross-shopping it with the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Its tech is impressive, too.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

7/10

2025 Cadillac CT5

7/10

The 2025 Cadillac CT5 continued to build on the legacy of its predecessor, the CTS, by offering a visually appealing design and a comfortable driving experience. Despite its attractive appearance and rewarding drive, the CT5 was noted for lacking the sophistication of its competitors and having a smaller trunk. Over the years, Cadillac enhanced the CT5 with increased power, performance, and advanced technology. The 2025 model featured a refreshed design with vertically stacked headlights and a bold front fascia. Inside, the CT5 boasted a new 33-inch display, maintaining physical controls for ease of use, and offered luxurious interior options like carbon fiber trim and semi-aniline leather upholstery.

The 2026 Audi A6, while not as visually striking as the CT5, presented a handsome and refined design. Its signature "singleframe" grille and Quattro-inspired fender flares added definition, though it remained more subdued compared to its German rivals. The A6 featured innovative lighting with pixelated LED headlights and programmable taillights. Available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims, the A6 offered sporty options like the S Line Black Optic Package and Sport Plus Package. However, the interior materials were criticized for feeling bland and cheap, even in the top-spec models.

Performance

2026 Audi A6

7/10

2025 Cadillac CT5

7/10

The 2025 Cadillac CT5 offered a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. For those seeking more power, the optional twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 delivered 335 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque. This engine, also mated to a 10-speed automatic, provided a more dynamic driving experience, especially with the available all-wheel drive. However, the V6 and AWD upgrades came at a significant cost and impacted fuel economy, with the V6 averaging 22.5 mpg during testing. The CT5's platform, shared with the Chevrolet Camaro, ensured a lively drive, though the Premium Luxury trim was noted for its softer ride and less precise steering.

The 2026 Audi A6 featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, producing 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro all-wheel drive. This powertrain allowed the A6 to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, outperforming base models of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. Despite its power, the transmission exhibited hesitation under heavy throttle. The A6's handling was enhanced by brake-based torque vectoring and an optional sport rear differential, though the Sport Plus Package's steel-spring suspension compromised ride quality. The A6's steering system provided precision but felt artificially heavy in Dynamic mode.

Form and function

2026 Audi A6

2025 Cadillac CT5

8/10

The 2025 Cadillac CT5 offered a comfortable road-trip experience, though it was louder than expected, and the front seats lacked side bolsters. Rear-seat passengers enjoyed good legroom and thigh support, but headroom was limited. Interior storage was adequate, with a wireless smartphone charger conveniently located. However, cargo space was tight, with only 11.9 cubic feet available, and the trunk's uneven floor made loading difficult.

The 2026 Audi A6, despite being 2.4 inches longer than its predecessor, did not offer increased passenger space. The panoramic glass roof improved front-seat headroom, but rear-seat headroom and legroom remained unchanged. The A6 provided comparable space to the BMW 5 Series, with rear-seat climate controls and USB-C ports. The trunk offered 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space, more than the CT5 and Mercedes E-Class, but less than the 5 Series.

Technology

2025 Cadillac CT5

The 2025 Cadillac CT5 featured a new 33-inch panoramic display with three screens, including a trip computer, digital instrumentation, and a wide infotainment touchscreen with Google Built-in technology. The system offered Google Assistant, Google Maps, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 15-speaker AKG premium audio system. Additional tech included a head-up display, digital rearview mirror, and Teen Driver technology.

The 2026 Audi A6 introduced the Digital Stage setup with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. An optional 10.9-inch front-passenger touchscreen was available. The MMI infotainment system was criticized for its oversimplified layout, though voice recognition and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were standard. Audi planned to update the interface mid-year, adding features like an integrated dashcam. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system included headrest speakers for navigation directions.

Safety

The 2025 Cadillac CT5 came equipped with a comprehensive set of driving assistance systems, including a surround-view camera, semi-automated parking assist, and automatic collision-avoidance braking. The standout feature was Super Cruise, offering hands-free driving on approved roads. The CT5 received top five-star ratings from the NHTSA in all crash tests.

The 2026 Audi A6 included standard driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Premium Plus and Prestige trims added park-assist, adaptive cruise assist, and a 360-degree camera system. However, the lane-centering feature allowed for some lane wobble. Crash-test ratings were not available at the time of writing.
