2024 Genesis GV80 Reviews Summary

Genesis introduced the GV80 in 2021, and the crossover SUV is getting a minor refresh in 2025. Still, the 2024 GV80 remains a good choice unless you want to wait for the fancier styling, more high-tech interior, or new supercharged GV80 Coupe coming next year. Otherwise, today’s GV80 is pretty much the same as tomorrow’s GV80, and in some respects, it is the more elegant and traditional choice.

Verdict: Based on our evaluation of the 2024 Genesis GV80, seat comfort is not what it should be. Also, to use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you need a USB cable. This Genesis is thirsty, too. But otherwise, we have few complaints about this stylish, safe, and mostly rewarding midsize luxury SUV.

2025 Volkswagen Atlas Reviews Summary

The 2025 Atlas is Volkswagen’s midsize, three-row crossover SUV. It debuted for the 2018 model year, designed specifically for Americans and manufactured in VW’s Chattanooga, Tennessee, assembly plant. Over the years, it has received numerous updates to keep it fresh and technologically competitive, most recently for 2024, when styling, powertrain, and tech upgrades were introduced. The 2025 Atlas adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and wireless charging in addition to two new color choices.

Verdict: This family-sized SUV has more interior space than most rivals, making the 2025 VW Atlas a great choice if passenger and cargo room are high on your list of requirements. However, unimpressive fuel economy, dissatisfying ride quality, and a sometimes-infuriating infotainment interface could have you mapping out alternatives to an Atlas.

2024 Genesis GV80

9/10

2025 Volkswagen Atlas

8/10

The 2024 Genesis GV80 offered a choice between the 2.5T turbocharged four-cylinder and the 3.5T twin-turbocharged V6 models, with trim levels ranging from Standard to Prestige Signature. Prices spanned from $57,700 to $81,750, plus a $1,350 destination charge. The test vehicle, a 3.5T in Prestige Signature trim, featured a Matterhorn White Matte paint job, bringing the MSRP to $84,600. Prestige Signature models came in exclusive colors with dark chrome trim and 22-inch wheels. The interior boasted Ultramarine Blue over Dune with diamond-stitched Nappa leather, a suede headliner, and a wide touchscreen display, exuding luxury. Despite its opulence, the Prestige Signature's exterior was less appealing than the Prestige model.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas was available in five trims: SE, SE with Technology, Peak Edition, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line. The Atlas Peak Edition had an off-road look, while the SEL Premium R-Line was sporty with standard equipment. Prices ranged from $38,200 to $53,205, excluding a $1,425 destination charge. The test vehicle, an Atlas SEL Premium R-Line in Mountain Lake Blue, had a Shetland Beige leather interior and a price of $54,630. The Atlas featured polished aluminum detailing, light bars, and 21-inch wheels, giving it a muscular, upscale appearance. Inside, diamond-stitched leather and metallic accents created a warm environment, though touch-sensitive controls for temperature and volume were less satisfying.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 2.5T featured a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, outperforming some rivals' V6 engines. The 3.5T model had a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. It offered five driving modes and could tow up to 6,000 pounds. The GV80 3.5T delivered a rewarding driving experience with swift acceleration and commendable grip, though it was thirsty on fuel, achieving 17.2 mpg compared to the EPA's 20 mpg estimate.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas replaced its previous engines with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Despite initial skepticism, the engine proved refined and satisfying for daily driving. The Atlas returned 15.5 mpg in urban settings and 19.2 mpg overall, below the EPA's 18 mpg city and 21 mpg combined ratings. The ride quality was less impressive, with a brittle suspension and excessive body motions at highway speeds. However, the Atlas handled predictably on mountain roads, with responsive brakes and steering.

Form and function

2025 Volkswagen Atlas

10/10

In 2024, the Genesis GV80 3.5T Advanced was the only model with a third-row seat, while the Prestige Signature seated four with luxurious second-row captain’s chairs. The interior featured premium materials and advanced comfort features, though seat comfort was lacking on long trips. Cargo space measured 34.9 cubic feet behind the second row, expanding to 84 cubic feet with seats folded, though the rear console limited loading ease.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas excelled in form and function, offering a spacious interior with a comfortable third-row seat. The SEL Premium R-Line model featured heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, excellent visibility, and a surround-view camera system. The second-row bench seat provided ample space, and access to the third row was outstanding. The Atlas offered 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 96.6 cubic feet with seats folded, making it highly practical for carrying people and cargo.

The 2024 Genesis GV80 featured a 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, with a control dial for ease of use. It included navigation, SiriusXM, and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Prestige Signature added wireless charging in the second row. The digital key system and Lexicon premium sound system enhanced the tech experience, with a head-up display providing blind-spot warnings.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas used the MIB3 operating system with a 12-inch touchscreen display. It lacked traditional controls, relying on touch-sensitive buttons and a slide volume control. The native digital voice assistant was unreliable, but wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto offered a better experience. The Harman Kardon audio system was impressive, though the MIB3 system had user-experience glitches, making smartphone integration essential for satisfaction.

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas featured IQ.Drive with Front Assist, Active Side Assist, Lane Assist, Emergency Assist, and Travel Assist. It included adaptive cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert.
