2023 RAM 1500 Reviews SummaryDo you remember when pickup trucks were used only by construction workers and gardeners? They were work machines, meant to have scratched beds, a cab full of McDonald’s wrappers, and a big dent on the tailgate from an unfortunate run in with a telephone pole. No anymore. Today’s trucks give luxury vehicles a run for their money with fancy features and ridiculous amounts of technology. Today we’re looking at the 2023 Ram 1500. This truck hasn’t gotten a major update since 2019, and while it still holds its own next to the offerings from Ford, Chevrolet and Toyota, the others are catching up quickly.
2023 RAM 2500 Reviews SummaryThe Ram Power Wagon is a beast off-road and looks like it chews up and spits out lesser 2500-series heavy-duty pickup trucks for fun, but it’s also a purpose-built tool that isn’t easy to live with on a daily basis. The Ford F-250 Tremor and GMC Sierra 2500HD AT4 may not match the Power Wagon for sheer adventuring capability, but they retain more towing and payload capacity than the decal-decorated Ram, which can tow no more than 10,590 pounds and carry no more than 1,630 pounds of payload. Enter the new 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel. Problem solved.

The 2023 RAM 1500 Limited offered a sophisticated look and a plush feel, particularly with the Night Edition package. The package added a stealthier aesthetic with its black grille, black badging, black headlamp bezels, and 22-inch black aluminum wheels. Inside, the luxury continued with high-quality leather upholstery embroidered with the Limited logo, fine wood on the dash, and a large 12-inch screen that significantly modernized the interior look.
In contrast, the 2023 RAM 2500 Rebel leaned towards a more rugged appearance. It shared some design elements with the Power Wagon but opted out of the winch and other styling cues in favor of cleaner lines and larger 20-inch wheels. The interior reflected a similar utilitarian luxury with high-quality materials and advanced technologies, though it suffered a bit in terms of visibility around the infotainment controls due to glare.
When it came to performance, the RAM 1500 was versatile with multiple engine options, from the V6 eTorque to the potent supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in the TRX variant. Most pickups included the efficient and robust 5.7-liter Hemi V8, standard on higher trims. The capability to choose between engines based on needs like towing or fuel efficiency was a strong selling point. It also boasted an exceptional ride quality thanks to its advanced suspension systems.
The RAM 2500 Rebel, equipped with a standard 6.4-liter V8 or an optional 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel, targeted a more specific audience. It excelled in towing capacity and payload, surpassing the 1500 significantly, which might matter more to those needing a workhorse. Its performance off-road and on various terrains testified to its build quality and design thoughtfulness, despite being less versatile in engine options compared to the 1500.
The interior space of the RAM 1500 appeared more tech-focused and luxurious, catering well to personal and family use with ample legroom, versatile storage solutions including a multi-functional tailgate, and the exclusive RamBox storage. Its approach to practical luxury made it an enjoyable everyday vehicle.
The RAM 2500 Rebel, while spacious and equipped with comfortable seating and numerous storage configurations, demanded physical agility to access due to its height and build. It offered formidable cargo solutions akin to the 1500 but was clearly designed with heavy-duty utility in mind, highlighted by its superior towing and payload capacities.
Technology in both models showcased RAM’s commitment to modernizing their trucks. The 1500 featured a possible 12-inch digital gauge cluster and a pioneering 12-inch infotainment screen. Innovation continued with multiple USB ports and smart storage for devices, emphasizing convenience.
Meanwhile, the 2500 also adopted a new 12-inch digital gauge cluster and enhanced trailering tech with extensive camera views and trailer steering controls, reflecting its focus on heavy-duty usage. Despite some user interface issues like glare, it remained adeptly equipped for rigorous tasks.
Safety technologies in the 1500 included optional upgrades for blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning. It earned a commendable five-star NHTSA rating, although some driver-assist features were only available through packages.
The 2500 came loaded with several advanced driving aids as standard in our test model, providing extensive support for safe driving, which was crucial given its size and power. Although specific crash-test results were unavailable, its robust build provided a sense of security.
