After launching a redesigned Suburban for the 2021 model year, Chevrolet further enhances its biggest SUV for 2022. Most of the changes relate to technology and safety upgrades, including a larger digital instrument cluster on LT and above trim levels, standard Google built-in software, standard park-assist and lane-maintenance features, and available reverse automatic braking. In the powertrain department, the big 6.2-liter V8 is now available on RST, Z71, and Premier trims.

2022 Nissan Rogue Reviews Summary

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is a two-row crossover compact SUV with frameless, unibody construction, riding on a platform that was all-new for 2021 and shared with the soon-to-arrive next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander. It comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) or available all-wheel drive (AWD) and in four trim levels. FWD prices start at $26,700 and go up to $36,480 (plus options), equating to a $650 increase for FWD models and $750 increase for AWD models compared to the 2021 model year. 2022 Chevrolet Suburban

5/10

2022 Nissan Rogue

7/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban carried forward the brand's full-size truck design language from its 2021 redesign. Sharing its exterior styling with the Tahoe SUV and Silverado 1500 pickup, the Suburban's tall hood, long proportions, and large wheels gave it a supersized appearance. The grille, fascia, and wheel designs varied by trim level, offering buyers a fair degree of customization. The RST trim, with its Cherry Red Tintcoat exterior and 22-inch bright-machined black-painted wheels, stood out with a sporty look, enhanced by a monochromatic black grille and RST-specific badging.

Inside, the Suburban offered a spacious cabin ranging from economically comfortable on the base LS trim to plush on the High Country. Leather seats became standard starting on the LT trim, with material quality improving as the price increased. The RST trim featured 10-way power driver and front passenger seats, Jet Black perforated leather seats with Victory Red stitching, and an optional Luxury package. However, the predominantly black interior made the cabin feel a bit dark despite the open and airy space.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue, redesigned in 2021, continued with its mature and sophisticated look. The exterior featured Nissan’s V-motion grille, multi-level LED headlights, and a floating roof design. The SL and Platinum trims included LED fog lamps, while active grille shutters and underbody covers improved airflow. The slightly bulging liftgate added a nice finishing touch to the body.

Inside, the Rogue followed a layered dash design trend, with contrasting colors and surfaces in some trims. The center console, featuring an electronic gear selector lever, provided ample storage space beneath it. The 9-inch center infotainment display was positioned near the driver’s eye line, and the instrument panel varied from a 7-inch display on lower trims to a 12.3-inch digital screen on upper trims. The Zero Gravity bucket-style front seats and roomy second row offered comfort and space for passengers.

Performance

2022 Chevrolet Suburban

7/10

2022 Nissan Rogue

8/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban offered three engine choices: a 5.3-liter V8, a 6.2-liter V8, and a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-six. The 5.3-liter V8, standard on all but the Premier trim, produced 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The 6.2-liter V8, standard on the High Country and available on other trims, delivered 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. The new 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine provided 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, offering excellent fuel economy and a five-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

The Suburban's RST trim, equipped with the 6.2-liter V8, showcased noticeable power and acceleration, making it ideal for towing. The SUV's maximum towing capacity was 8,300 pounds. The independent rear suspension improved ride quality and increased cargo space. The RST trim also featured Magnetic Ride Control and dual exhaust tips, enhancing performance and handling.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue introduced a new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine, producing 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. This engine offered an 11 percent increase in horsepower and 24 percent more torque compared to the previous 2.5-liter engine. The VC-Turbo technology allowed the engine to adjust the compression ratio for better performance and fuel efficiency, achieving an EPA-estimated 30 mpg city/37 mpg highway/33 mpg combined.

The Rogue's new CVT transmission provided a wider range of gear ratios, improving acceleration and responsiveness. The chassis and suspension delivered a smooth and controlled ride, with minimal body roll. The electric power-assisted steering offered good feel, and the 35.4-foot turning diameter was tight for a compact crossover.

The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban excelled in space, offering seating for up to nine occupants with the optional front-row bench seat. Most configurations provided seven- or eight-passenger seating. The third row was spacious enough for adults, with excellent access. The Suburban boasted 41.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, expanding to 144.7 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded flat. The power-sliding center console and numerous storage cubbies added to its practicality. However, its large size made maneuvering and parking challenging, especially in tight spaces.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue offered smart storage solutions throughout the cabin, including bottle holders, cupholders, a glove compartment, a center console bin, and more. Rear-seat passengers had storage options and USB ports for their devices. The second-row seat was a 60/40 split reclining bench. The Rogue provided 31.6-36.5 cubic feet of cargo space, expanding to 74.1 cubic feet with the second row folded flat.
