2022 Chevrolet Blazer Reviews Summary

Have you ever found yourself thinking that you’d love to have a new Chevy Camaro but what you really need is a midsize SUV? If so, you’ll want to consider the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, a Camaro-influenced crossover that seats up to five people and carries up to 64.2 cubic feet of cargo. However, unlike Blazers of yore, the 2022 Blazer is best used on pavement. Generally speaking, though, aside from its sporty styling and overall adequacy, there isn’t much here to titillate a typical SUV buyer. Or Camaro dreamer.

2022 Lincoln Navigator Reviews Summary

Sometimes, only a full-size SUV will do. Among the handful of large luxury models available, the 2022 Lincoln Navigator stands apart with its classically elegant design, robust towing capacity, and soothing comfort in all three rows of seats.

For the 2022 Navigator, Lincoln makes numerous changes to update the SUV’s styling, comfort, technology, safety, and driving dynamics. To experience the changes first-hand, we headed to Scottsdale, Arizona following a cold snap of winter weather. In short, the facelift has revived the aging Navigator, keeping it competitive against newer rivals.

2022 Chevrolet Blazer

7/10

2022 Lincoln Navigator

8/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer was offered in 2LT, 3LT, Premier, and RS trim levels. Most trims came with a standard turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the option of front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD). The RS trim stood out with a V6 engine and a sophisticated twin-clutch AWD system for better performance on low-traction surfaces. For 2022, the Blazer saw minor updates, including revised bumper and bodyside trim for the Premier version, new wheel designs, and the introduction of an Enhanced Convenience Package and a Trailering Package for models with the turbocharged engine. Two-tone paint options were also available for the LT and RS trims. Pricing ranged from $33,400 to $41,100, excluding a $1,195 destination charge. Our test vehicle, a Blazer RS with optional AWD and several packages, totaled $49,000.

The Blazer's design drew inspiration from the Camaro, both inside and out. The 20-inch wheels enhanced its visual appeal, although the black trim on the rear bumper gave it an unfinished look. Inside, the Camaro influence was evident in the infotainment and climate control systems, featuring an 8-inch touchscreen with physical controls and innovative air vents with temperature adjustment rings. However, the interior had plenty of hard plastic, which felt out of place in a nearly $50,000 vehicle. The RS trim's red interior accents matched the exterior paint, adding a touch of sophistication.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator received subtle styling updates, including new headlights, taillights, and wheel designs, with a 20-inch design now standard. The front end was restyled, featuring an Audi-esque grille that some felt lacked the elegance of previous models. Despite this, the rest of the updates were well-received. Inside, the Navigator continued to impress with high-quality materials and a mid-century modern design, now featuring Lincoln's Constellation instrumentation and infotainment display theme. The new Sync 4 infotainment system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen was a significant upgrade, offering a more modern and user-friendly experience.

The Navigator was available in standard and long-wheelbase styles with Standard, Reserve, and Black Label trims. Pricing started at $78,405, including a $1,695 destination charge. Our test vehicle, a Navigator Black Label in the new Central Park theme, featured a green interior with second-row heated, ventilated, and massaging captain's chairs. The total price was $106,530. The Navigator's interior was spacious and comfortable, with the third-row seat offering ample room. Storage and cargo space were generous, making it a practical choice for families.

Performance

2022 Chevrolet Blazer

5/10

2022 Lincoln Navigator

8/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer came with a standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission powered either the front or all four wheels, with driving modes including Tour, Sport, Slippery, and Tow/Haul. The Blazer RS featured a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 308 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, paired with a dual-clutch AWD system. This engine was also available for the 3LT and Premier trims. The V6 could tow up to 4,500 pounds, 1,000 pounds more than the base engine. The Blazer RS offered a firm and sporty ride, with decent grip and capable brakes. However, the V6 engine was loud and unrefined, and the nine-speed automatic transmission was slow to downshift in Sport mode. The Blazer's fuel economy was rated at 21 mpg in combined driving, but our test vehicle averaged 20.5 mpg.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator retained its twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Navigator offered rear-wheel drive (RWD) or four-wheel drive (4WD) and could tow between 8,100 and 8,700 pounds, depending on the configuration. The adaptive-damping suspension with Road Preview technology improved ride quality by preparing the suspension for upcoming road imperfections. The new electronic brake booster enhanced brake pedal feel and response. During our test drive from Scottsdale to Payson, the Navigator handled various road conditions with ease, including snow and mud, thanks to its 4WD system and 9.7 inches of ground clearance. The Navigator's fuel economy was rated at 18 mpg in combined driving, and our test vehicle averaged 18.6 mpg.

Form and function

2022 Chevrolet Blazer

6/10

2022 Lincoln Navigator

10/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer offered a reasonably comfortable and practical interior. Our RS test vehicle featured black leather upholstery with red perforations, giving the cabin a sporty look. The steering wheel was comfortable to grip, with power tilt and telescopic adjustment and heating. The front seats provided power adjustment, heating, and ventilation, but the bottom cushions lacked thigh support. Dual-zone automatic climate control and rear air vents ensured passenger comfort. The back seat was spacious and could slide forward and back to adjust cargo or passenger space. Storage options included a large glove compartment, a center armrest bin, and door panel shelves. The Blazer's cargo space measured 30.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 64.2 cubic feet with the seats folded down, which was small for a midsize SUV.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator continued to offer exceptional comfort with its 30-way power-adjustable front seats, which were heated, ventilated, and massaging. The second-row captain's chairs were also heated, ventilated, and massaging, providing a luxurious experience. The third-row seat was spacious and comfortable, thanks to the independent rear suspension design. Storage and cargo space were generous, with the long-wheelbase Navigator L offering even more room. The Navigator provided 19.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row (34.3 cubic feet for Navigator L), 57.5 cubic feet with the third row folded (73.3 cubic feet for Navigator L), and a maximum of 103.3 cubic feet with the second row collapsed (120.2 cubic feet for Navigator L).

Technology

2022 Chevrolet Blazer

2022 Lincoln Navigator

8/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer featured an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with high-resolution graphics and a modern appearance. The system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite radio, and a connected navigation system with enhanced voice recognition. Connected services, including an OnStar Safety and Security plan and a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, were available with short trial periods. The infotainment system was easy to use, with separate stereo volume and tuning functions and climate controls. Our test vehicle also had wireless smartphone charging, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, rear parking sensors, a high-resolution reversing camera, a 360-degree surround-view camera, and a rear camera mirror.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator received a new Sync 4 infotainment system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen display. The system supported Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and featured a user-friendly interface with physical controls for volume, stereo tuning, and climate functions. Sync 4's voice recognition system was improved but not perfect. The upgraded Lincoln Play rear-seat entertainment system included Amazon Fire TV, providing access to streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. The test vehicle also had a 28-speaker Revel 3D audio system, which delivered an exceptional listening experience.

Safety

2022 Chevrolet Blazer

7/10

2022 Lincoln Navigator

8/10

The 2022 Chevrolet Blazer came standard with Chevy Safety Assist, which included forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, low-speed automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additional safety features included a rear-seat reminder system, Teen Driver technology, a vibrating Safety Alert Seat, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and LED headlights. Our test vehicle had all available safety features, which worked well even in heavy traffic. However, the Blazer did not receive a "Top Safety Pick" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to its headlights' performance.

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator introduced several new driver assistance systems, including Intersection Assist, Road Edge Detection, Active Park Assist 2.0, and ActiveGlide. A surround-view camera system was also newly standard. Intersection Assist could automatically brake during unsafe movements, while Road Edge Detection helped steer the SUV away from road edges. Active Park Assist 2.0 allowed the Navigator to park itself in parallel and perpendicular spaces. ActiveGlide, Lincoln's semi-autonomous driving technology, enabled hands-free driving on approved highways. During our test, ActiveGlide performed well but required the driver to remain attentive. The Navigator's safety features aimed to enhance driving convenience and safety.
