Is 6mm on brake pads considered "near end of life"?
I paid $100 to have a vehicle inspection done on a 2008 Toyota Sienna that I recently purchased. In the inspection report that the shop gave me they noted that the front brake pads were at 6mm and stated that they were "nearing end of life", then proceeded to price out the parts and labor for replacing the front brakes and rotors. When I spoke with the technician on the phone he told me that he recommended that they be replaced within the next 1-2k miles, and implied that leaving them unreplaced could be a safety issue. This seems absolutely outrageous to me, as I would expect brake pads with 6mm to last me, at the VERY least, another year. However, I am not a professional and I would like to get more information about this, as I am considering making a complaint against them to the BBB. I already disputed their report and asked for my money back twice. The first time they denied me, saying that they had clearly written the width of the brake pads, that according to them that was "near end of life", and that they had never recommended that I make a replacement (even though they took the time to price out parts and labor on the invoice for the inspection). The second time I disputed it they never bothered to respond.
