2008 Honda Ridgeline timing belt replacement?
My 2008 has 40K miles. The Dealer says the timing belt needs to be replace after 7 years. I'm no where near the mileage point but do i really need to replace the belt with these low miles?

Ridgeline trim options expanded for the previous model year, but Honda's sporty multipurpose truck returns unchanged for 2008. The Ridgeline was introduced for the 2006 model year, and quickly became a top seller for Honda, thanks to its car-like ride and SUV flexibility. The truck also has a few unique features, like a lockable trunk under the cargo bed.
There are four available variations of Honda's midsize pickup for 2008. The base level RT is equipped with the convenience basics, like power windows, power mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control and air conditioning. The RTX offers several appearance upgrades, while the third-tier RTS adds luxury items. The fully equipped RTL is essentially a combination of RTS and RTX features, plus dual-zone climate control and leather, heated seats. This top-level trim is the only Ridgeline that can be equipped with an optional navigation system.
All Ridgelines come standard with a comprehensive list of safety features, including traction control, stability control, ABS with brake assist, seat-mounted side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags.
All four trims house the same drivetrain: a 3.5-liter V6 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. This power plant delivers 247 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque. Honda's VTM-4 (Variable Torque Management) all-wheel-drive system is standard on all trims. The Ridgeline will haul 5,000 pounds, and it is capable of carrying 1,550 pounds in payload.
Consumers have reported the Ridgeline's road manners to be sporty and well-controlled, but the ride is very cushioned for a truck. Because Honda intended the Ridgeline to balance car-like attributes and truck convenience, many buyers may find that this unique vehicle lacks some of the desirable elements of full-size trucks, like a big V8 and off-road prowess.
Many reviewers found the vehicle's rear seat stiff and unwelcoming, while the driver and front passenger ride in above-average comfort for a truck. The Ridgeline's interior is spacious, and it offers a 60/40 folding rear seat and several storage compartments. Buyers have suggested that a manual transmission and a longer bed might make the Ridgeline a better value. The 60-inch bed is actually quite wide, at nearly 50 inches, allowing for a bit more loading flexibility than many midsize pickups offer.

I have always had a regular pickup truck ( Ford, Chevy, Dodge). I have had the smaller pick ups ( Ranger, Dakota, S10). Of these American made trucks, the Dodge full size and the Dakota have been the only ones I felt good with. I am no longer in a position where the full size regular pick up truck was needed and wanted something that would fit in the small size category, but provide exceptional ride, usefulness, and reliability and the 1st generation Honda Ridgelines have fit that need. It was everything and more. Although I viewed the exterior with rose colored glasses; I missed 2 rust areas around rear lower doors and a one inch hole in the lowest part of the rear bumper until a few days later. How you say? It was a great truck at a great deal. The camper shell was nice. The aftermarket stereo sounded great. In 2009 Honda gave the Ridgeline a refresh and introduced the backup camera along with fog lights. I want a backup camera and fog lights. I had to pass on the truck. Even though it sold later that day, I still question if I was right to not get it. I’ve been on the hunt for a Ridgeline for about 6 weeks now. These trucks sell fast. Overall, this truck is gorgeous and fun to drive. It handles like a dream and I wouldn't want to trade it even for a Lamborghini. If I had the money, I'd buy that Lamborghini and keep the Ridgeline too. I'd drive the Lamborghini on the weekends.Aug 15, 2013

Like the style and utility, had 12,000 miles when I bought it in 09. Headliner came apart, then the rear brakes wore out every 20,000 miles, at 72,000 the motor had BIG Problems....Still got another one:) The 08 was made in Canada, now the are made(100%, motor, tranny,complete) in Alabama !! Hopefully they fixed everything. The 2012 is a Sport model, very sharp w/ 18" wheels and black out treatment inside and out.Mar 22, 2013

Great small truck that fits my need fit my tall boys in the back and still able to have a truck for work. It also has a 5000lb towing capacity. Lots of cab room for long trips but he gas mileage could be better. I have only gotten about 16mpg average.Nov 23, 2012

Perfect truck for outdoor activities with family or friends! It is in excellent condition, and I have never had ANY maintenance issues. This all wheel drive truck handles extremely well in the snow and rides very smooth in all conditions. I love in the in-bed trunk space, very handy to have, either for small things that you don't want to put in the main cabin space, or for keeping stuff out of the weather in the bed area.
The fold up rear seat bench, also handy.
The dual-action tailgate, what a gem. The convience of being able to open it sideways and not having to lean over the tailgate normally to reach into the trunk/ bed space. I don't know why more auto makers offer something like this some of there current models.Jun 05, 2010

It is 4 wheel drive, 4 door, and black. I installed an AirRaid intake on it, for improved performance. It has a 3.5 liter V6, and good power. It doesn't get very good gas mileage though, probably because of my lead foot. May 08, 2009

It is the ideal vehicle for all around use. Has the modern stylings that appear futuristic. It really stands out in a crowd. It possesses a lot of "umph". It's quick off the line, but maintains a relatively modest fuel consumption rating, because of it's 3.5L V6. It's only a part-time four wheel drive, the computer engages the rear wheels only when it senses slippage. So you save on that gas mileage as well. It's quite spacious inside. I've never personally sat in the rear of the vehicle, but I assume it's spacious. I've never heard any complaints. It's box IS a little on the small side, but large enough to get whatever job done, that you need. Yet small enough that you won't have people hounding you to help them move. Plus, the trunk is to die for. Most people don't even realize that the truck has a trunk in the bed, plus it's lockable so you have that added convenience and security. The Honda Ridgeline is an absolute delight to drive and to own.Mar 13, 2009

I took the Honda Ridgeline out for a test drive, I had it for 6 hours, It was comfortable, for a truck. It not having Low (4x4) means this is a "soccer mom" auto. Althou it has 4x4 it is pretty much for people who get spooked in the snow/bad weather or their cottage is JUST off the beaten path. The nui-body construction meant this is limited to towing od hauling, According to the dealer rep, it has a 4500lbs tow rating (my 1993 Olds 98 has the same rating). It has a 1700lbs payload (according to the dealer rep). Which means if 4 people are in it and there combined weight is 900lbs that means 800lbs in the back, Not that good for a truck. Mind you these are the figures that the dealer gave me. I found the truck to be responsive, but really lagged going up a semi-steep incline. There was lots of storage space in it and it handled the road very well. I found the V-6 to be thristy (I got an avg of 18 mpg were the Avalanche I tested got an average of 21MPG and it is alot heavier with a V-8). The fit and finish I found was good, but there was a rattle in the glove box area, We filled it up and the rattle was alot quieter. Feb 29, 2008
