A 2.0-liter, 138 hp inline 4 cylinder engine comes standard in all trims of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra line. Standard across the board as well are the two engine options: a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic. Gas mileage for the 2006 Hyundai Elantra is a respectable 24/34 mpg city/highway. Not a large car by any standard, the 2006 Elantra has plenty of space, power and zip for regular day to day driving, though families might want to steer clear.
A new trim was added for the third year in a row to the Hyundai Elantra line in 2006: the Limited Sedan, which offers a level of luxury not previously found in the Hyundai Elantra line. Depending on the trim, there are a number of standard and optional features on the 2006 Hyundai Elantra. Air conditioning, cruise control, a leather steering wheel cover, leather seats, a CD player (which now comes standard on all trims), and now even a powered or manual sunroof are all available. For safety, the 2006 Hyundai Elantra has driver, passenger and side airbags, ABS, traction control, and power windows and locks.
With a very few exceptions, the gas mileage on the 2006 Hyundai Elantra was the feature most talked about by owners in reviews. Consistently people were getting 33-35 miles per gallon, even with the air conditioning on. Other features people love were the peppiness of the engine, even with the gas mileage, and the amount of space that is available in a compact sedan. And of course, the unbeatable warrenty. There were some minor complaints, but most of them cosmetic, like dissatisfaction with the shape of the grill or there not being a remote trunk opener. Other than that, however, most of the problems that Hyundai had with previous Elantras seem to have been fixed in the 2006. A HIGHLY recommended vehicle.

This car is a very reliable car. It needs to be well maintained such as oil changes and keep up the fluids up to date. If you maintain this vehicle as the company specifications, it will last you a long time as were any other car that needs to be maintained.Apr 15, 2021

Reliablility and keyless entry are tops. Hatchback great for urban shopping in tight spaces. AM/FM CD player works great and additional 9V outlet synchs well with my MP3 converter. Peppy engine and great gas mileage for compact car of its size. May 11, 2014

Economical to maintain. Never broke down for any reason. No hidden clanks or irritants.
Last year Hyundai made the Elantra designed like a Saab styled hatchback. Airbags and steel sided doors made me feel safe while driving. No blind spots.May 08, 2014

Decent little car. Not much leg room, and not a lot of power going up a hill, but over all a good little beater. I put about 5 grand into mine, but the previous owner didn't stay up to date with maintenance.May 15, 2013

Overall, I loved my 2006 Elantra, and would still be driving out had it not been totaled in an accident recently. I bought it new, and with exception of a couple of annoying quirks, it treated me well. It was good on gas, even with all the junk that had accumulated in the trunk. It was reliable, and held up very well when I unavoidably rear-ended another vehicle on the highway at approximately 35-45 mph. The car was a total loss - airbag deployed, front smashed in, hood crumpled, windshield cracked, but the interior was fully intact, so definitely a safe car. The only problems I had (the quirks) were 1.) Small door-mounted speaker cover somehow broke, 2.) Driver side windshield wiper loosened while driving in a snowstorm (this happened twice, both times the snow being heavy & wet), and 3.) brake light switch failed causing brake lights to stay on constantly, even when car was not running. (Fortunately this happened when the bumper-to-bumper warranty was still in effect). Overall, I would highly recommend buying this car as a second around-town car, as a commuter car for a college student, or as a first car for a young driver.Mar 14, 2013

I enjoyed driving this car. Took it on many trips to upstate NY and got gas mileage was good and fairly comfortable with 4 people in the car. It's a little tight with 3 larger people in the back seat. Dec 12, 2012

I got this car because I had a 1999 Nissian Quest Van that constantly broke down until one day it was totaled in a motor vehicle accident - This was a good deal at the time - But I really prefer a SUV Type Vehicle - I guess we learn by our mistakes!Sep 24, 2012

Love my car, plan to keep it for family members to use when needed. Car has been dependable and the maintenance has been minimal. Changed all of the drive belts and the manufactured parts are long lasting. No real issues.Dec 28, 2011

Like it a lot, quick, comfortable, good on gas, and a four door hatchback is awesome so I can lay all the seats down and have a queen size bed in my car! Very reliable, never gives me any problems that can't be blamed on the driver :D. Also has a decent, stock component speaker system. The only complaint is that the clutch might be going, but then again I do drive it pretty hard.Jan 06, 2010

My family bought a 2006 Elantra sedan and I have had the experience of driving several thousands of kilometers in it. It strikes me as an excellent vehicle for people who don't care about cars. Let me explain.
The build quality, in terms of interior materials and panel fitting, is quite good. There is a weight to the instruments that is missing from American-made competitors.
The interior does feels a little cheap or dowdy compared to a Toyota Corolla's, but I think the Elantra surpasses the Corolla in terms of outward visibility, acceleration and handling. That is not to say that this vehicle is rewarding to drive, because it isn't. Performance is merely adequate. It's a good thing this car came with an MP3 player, because the driving experience sure isn't going to keep me entertained.
Like the rest of the car, the styling is decent. It's not a stunner, but then stunners are rare in this segment.
Cost of ownership? This is where the Hyundai wins. Gas mileage is fine, the car was cheap, and from what I'm told parts and labour are cheap. It's like shopping at Winners- it's an affordable car, and what you get is just as good as the name brands.
So this is a great car for going from point A or B with no events or drama. If a car is a practical necessity for you, a tool, an Elantra won't disappoint. For other people the drive is an event in itself- and for these people I recommend something else. Feb 21, 2009

Performance is not bad could have more power, The cars lines all match up no large gaps between panels. Its got nice leather intr and very comfortable seats, enough room for four. I like the looks reminds me of a Saab 9-3. I have been averaging around 33mpg with the upgrades that I have done. Handles well and now better with the custom built strut bar. I love to drive this car.Feb 07, 2009

The old Elantra...this car was one of the first ones I had to drive for work. It didn't give me a good impression of Hyundai leading me to believe they wouldn't catch up to the Japanese at that rate. Well onto this car.
This car was just not very involving to drive. The engine was rather unrefined so it was noisy but it wasn't very powerful either, its a Mitsubishi design too. Handling is merely average and thus nothing really worth noting.
The interior is really where this car didn't help the unsatisfying driving experience. The car's beeper noises are very annoying, it will be the first thing you'll notice. The interior is nothing but bland and unappealing. The build quality is so-so, it seems the Koreans only build a car well when they believe in it...this wasn't one of them.
The exterior wasn't very good looking particularly the front. Some of the colours Hyundai offered were especially terrible particularly the green.
This is a Hyundai from the past, considering how much better they are now its just not worth considering this one. This particular car is best left forgotten.Jan 17, 2009

It looks sharp with the tint, no problems at all yet (2.5 years); it's roomy for a compact car; the stereo is pretty good; decent ride; comfortable for a newer car. It's been very reliable.
The trunk dips a bit so you can't see it when backing up. It has a dorky alarm that only malfunctions. The breaks aren't the best (in all the Elantra's we tried). It needs snow tires to handle well in the snow (first car i've had like that). It has a slightly high centre of gravity but it's easy to get in and out of.
It hasn't developed a personality yet.Sep 07, 2008

Performance --> It's not a race car but it's 140hp still gives you a nice ride! I just recently installed a custom cold air intake with a K&N Air Filter...
Build Quality --> As of now I changed nothing on this car! Everything is holding on strong!
Appearance --> I changed the headlight to HID 8000K, I've got footwell neon working with the beat! Complete sound system with Pioneer Headunit and JBl Amps and Sub!
Cost --> Depending on how you drive it this car can really be good on gas mileage! For the price of maintenance I can't really tell bcz i didn't have to change nothing. All I do is oil change to Castrol Syntec every 8000km!
Well I would recommend a car to anyone who wants, a good car for not too much money that can last a real long time. Good on gas and Really good on maintenance! I drive it everyday and i love it! If you look around a little bit you'll find that this car is way more customizable than you think!Jun 27, 2008

Had the car for edging toward two years now. still love it as much as day one. Accel, Braking, Handling are all better then expected for a car in this price range. id give it an 8/10 personally. but i am biased in that i just love the thing. Jan 31, 2008

My owners manual states I should use gasoline with a pump octane rating of at least 87 octane. In most places this is regular unleaded, but I live in Colorado and the octane rating for regular unleaded is 85 and plus is 87. Apparently mountain states gasoline has a lower octane rating than other states. Does this mean I have to use unleaded plus in my 2006 Elantra?
My car ov3rheated due to leaking radiator hoses. Replaced hoses, then car would crank but not start. Determined battery had a dead cell. Immediately upon c connecting new battery, parking lights came on and I couldn't turn them off. Turned key and every light in dashboard came on. Wiper blades started and couldnt be turned off. Even after disengaging and removing the key, nothing would turn off until the battery was disconnected. What's wrong with my ca
Hello all. First things first, I own a 2006 Hyundai Elantra GLS (2.0L L4, automatic transmission, salvage title) Just yesterday, my car overheated on me. Knowing a bit about cars, I shifted my focus to the radiator, which was in fact the cause of the problem. Upon inspecting this part, I noticed that the part showed signs of coolant leakage as well as damaged fins. I decided to buy a replacement online, and after looking around for a bit I've narrowed it down to two vendors that I particularly liked. Before I take the next step of purchasing the part, I'd like to know if either company is in fact legitimate. I've been scammed in the past by seemingly legit companies, and I can't afford for it to happen again. Has anyone ever dealt with either http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/details/QQHyundaiQQElantraQQBehrQQRadiatorQQ20012006QQBEH376762121.html?apwcid=P1135867996W43b3f85c7ab9e&apwidQ1hf3qT or http://www.radiatorspot.com/hyundai/elantra/radiators.html#MjM3NDE Thanks in advance.
