For 2006, the Mazda 6 sedans, five-door hatchbacks, and wagons were available in a wide variety of trim packages. New for the year was a high-end Grand Sport package, which added such features as heated seats, xenon high-intensity headlights, heated exterior mirrors, a power glass sunroof, and a Bose audio system to an already extensive list of features. Other trim packages included the Sport and Grand Touring packages, in addition to the base models.
The Mazda 6 vehicles came with either i or s designations, which referred to the size of the engine. Sedans and hatchbacks with the i designation were equipped with a 160-horsepower, 2.3-liter four cylinder engine, while sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons with the s designation came with a 215-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6.
A five-speed manual transmission was standard for base and Sport packages, while either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed automatic was standard on the higher-end Grand Touring and Grand Sport packages.
Drivers were attracted to the Mazda 6 vehicles for their smooth handling, comfortable interiors, sporty styling, and good value. Some drivers noted minor problems with the cars, but since most of the cars are still under warranty, these problems have proven to be easily resolved.

This car has great power and quickness for a 4 cylinder and has been very reliable in the 6 years that I have owned it. It has never stranded me and has cost minimal to maintain. Front seats are uncomfortable in my opinion and I dislike the interior fabric, but this vehicle handles and drives great especially for its price point.Apr 01, 2015

If you know anything about driving and have some driving skills yourself you will not be even looking at camry, accord or altima. This is truly a drivers car with excellent fit and finish, very good built in quality and excellent bose stereo.Jun 06, 2014

This car is in great shape, very well maintained. Mazdas are now known for their great handling around corners. I had a lot of fun in this car for this reason. Acceleration is descent for its a manual transmission, which makes it more fun!!Sep 19, 2013

Nicely engineered. Quick when you want it to be, smooth ride, so-so fuel economy. The inside of the cabin area is large enough for me to sit comfortably in on the long hauls. It's my wife's car, She's the nice lady in the picture.Aug 26, 2013

I bought this car new in 2008 and still love it, I see many current 2012 cars and they don't have the same appeal my Mazda 6 was born with , for the money i payed I am very satisfied. I bought the car in 2008 with 30000 miles for 12k. the 2006 Mazda 6i is a very capable car, and it has a pretty ballsy 4 cylinder engine. I made a few cosmetic upgrades as well as suspension upgrades. Dont get me wrong, the stock suspension handles great, but I also use the car for some spirited driving, as well as light racing for fun. GREAT CARJan 28, 2012

This car is a drivers car. If you dont enjoy the thrill of getting behind the wheel or
have any passion to have a blast driving, then this isnt a car for you. Im talking
about the 2006 mazda6 GS hatchback with the 3.0 v6. It has more power than the
4 cyl., but not as much as the mazdaspeed 6. its a bit more expensive than other

I probably would love this car more if i hadnt had a supercharged monte carlo before it! Its a good car...good on everything from handeling and acceleration, but I have had to repair it twice for things that arent suppost to go out so early...good thing for warrenties!. I do however love the exterior look but I think the interior could have been done better, except the Bose sound is nice;) I do like to drive this 5 speed manual, it is fun and I would tells others about its great milage and look!Apr 02, 2009

This car gets amazing mileage, the acceleration, braking and handling are all really great. It hasn't needed any repairs, nor does it squeak or rattle. I love this car, it is so much fun to drive. I have recommended this car to my friend and he got a similar one.Jan 07, 2009

zoom zoom on performance as I am disabled, my right foot can't apply too much pressure, but thanks to the Mazda's excellent breaking, very responsive, and smooth, I find it a pleasure to drive, acceleration is top notch for type of car, and thanks to the combination of alloys, rust is a thing of the past, very reliable, must watch the petrol gage, finicky at times. wicked interior looks like Lexus interior! It is a great car and fun to drive. It has lots of space with the hatchback with NONE of the looks of a station wagon. Cost of ownership is cheap with the 4 cylinder engine, and it still has enough horses to really move. The transmission also lets you shift manually on this automatic car.Jul 22, 2008

Drove the 2.3litre. Performance is adequet. Handling is not bad. Interior has alot of hard plastics, but features like steering controlled radio/cruise control a plus. Fuel consumption is pretty bad, close to no sound proofing at all. Very spacious interior, very good to look at from the outside. Nice weight to the steering.Jun 11, 2008

For been a four cylinder car its pretty fast which makes it actually good on gas for its size. The interior is very modern with red lighting and mostly black and silver details. The handling is alright, you have to remember is not a race car, so its independent suspension works good. Performance wise, the five speed automatic/manual transmission makes the car a lot fun. Overall the mazda6 is good

This car is great, handles extremely well, in all types of climates. The acceleration is amazing. I love to go fast and get there quickly. Also, it makes turns very fast without losing much speed. The interior of the car is a little on the ugly side, you have a black dash but biege seats and carpets. So, overall the car is great!!!Apr 04, 2008

I've had this car for over 2 years now and i have no complaints with it. It handles like a dream, its 2.3 motor gives me the power i need to give other cars a run for its money whether in city traffic or on the highway. Stability at high speeds and cornering is simply awesome makes you want to push it even more.
Value for money deal - for what i paid i got 2.3 motor, cruise control, ABS, EBD, 6-Cd changer awesome music system, Leather interiors, climate control, 17" 10 spoke alloys, tubeless high performance Bridgestone tires, 2-tone radiant ebony metallic paint finish, spoiler lip, sports knob gear, triptronic gears, controls on the steering wheel, chrome tipped twin exhausts, halogen head lamps, built-in to head light case fog lamps. I think that's about it. For the same price i paid for this the accord, altima, lumina or the epica don't give the same returns.Apr 03, 2008

I can't afford the sexy Alfa Romeo coupe that was reviewed on Top Gear recently but my Mazda 6 is the best car I've owned. It handles well, takes off like a shot when you need to but is a smooth ride pottering around town. 06 Mazda 6 is jerking when accelerating
My vehicle is around 140k miles. It has viberated while idled for awhile now. More recently, when accelerating it is very jerky (kind of sputters like when your running out of gas). It has yet to die or completely stop but the problem is becoming worse. I've been told fuel pump/vaccum/coils/spark plugs/trans. Any suggestions what it could be or where I should start?
