In 2004, the Ford Mustang celebrated its 40th birthday, yet the product itself seemed to have little to celebrate. Very few changes were put into the 2004 Ford Mustang, seemingly saving up all surprises for the revamped 2005 model. To celebrate the anniversary, all 2004's came with a commemorative badge. If you want to celebrate the anniversary even more, a 40th anniversary package is available, which comes with special wheels.
The standard engine for 2004 is a 193-horsepower V6. The GT has a 260-horsepower, 4.6-liter V8, while the Mach 1 sports a 310-horsepower 4.6-liter, V8 and the Cobra has a whopping 390-horsepower, 4.6-liter V8.

I liked the car it was easy to handle and learn how to drive in. Very easy to park into to small spaces. Didn't handle in snow very well. The convertible top was nice in the summer.Really enjoyed owning the car overall. Dec 09, 2014

I could carry my full drumset in this car, much to people's amazement. (Most in the trunk, bass & floor tom in the backseat.) It is more fun than a "practical" car, and more practical than you'd think a sportscar would be. Never gave me a lick of trouble, always very reliable but also said "fun". All I had to do was take her in for regular oil changes and manufacturer's maintenance, and she did her job well toting me around. Just like the namesake, the Mustang. It's probably the best named model of a car ever!Oct 07, 2014

The interior could be a little quieter, especially at highway speeds and with strong acceleration. Not as powerful as the Cobra.
If you crave the most hp & plan to go 11's as fast (and as cheap over purchase price) as possible, get an '03/'04 Cobra.
If you want a lighter-feeling, easier to drive car that will go 12's without modding it to death,
then get a Mach 1.Jul 03, 2014

This car is Great, fantastic power! It is extremely comfortable and the Clutch is perfect. Its easy to drive and the Shaker is a huge throwback to the old school machs, and its functional! I prefer the cobra style bumper thoughJul 02, 2014

I really liked this car. Bought it for my wife and she really enjoyed driving her sports car. A great sounding "rumble" when starting with quick acceleration. Just a true American sports car. Mustang is an American icon sports car.Apr 26, 2014

Really enjoy driving this vehicle. Drives easily, clear vision, air conditioner makes summer driving enjoyable. As with most sports cars the rear seat is rather small, but if it was any bigger it would be a sedan and not a sports car! Even with a V-6 engine this car has ample power. Overall a great affordable sports car!May 19, 2013

I really like almost everything about this car. The only negative is that I travel a LOT and there isn't much space to pack my belongings into it. But this car handles like a dream and looks awesome. It's my first convertible and I LOVE it!May 08, 2013

I love the color and the power of the car. The air conditioning system works really nice for summertime. You feel in control with this car; the steering and braking handle very well. The car is a lot of fun to drive due to the power.Jan 05, 2013

This car has been very dependable. It is built very well and has the look and feel of a sports car, but the suspension of a family coupe. I recommend this for day to day commutes and you wont be disappointed. Apr 26, 2012

If you are looking for something for the everyday commute or have a family,
then this car is not for you. If you love power and fun driving, this is the car. It
performs like a racing car making summer a breeze but try to stay away from
snow.....far away.

The 2004 Mustang GT 40th anniversary is a fantastic car. the V8 is backed up by the famous tremac 5 speed.the cost of ownership is fairly cheap, not much maintenance to keep the car going.it is a fun car to drive when on interstate, cruising in 5th then downshifting to 4th and just going for it.Oct 18, 2011

Performance: The Ford Mustang has always been known it's great sounding
engine, and the 2004 GT is no exception to the trend. 260 horsepower and
303 lb/ft may not sound like a lot, but this car is rather deceiving it's power
delivery. Because of it's light weight and small proportions, one is easily
lead to believe, especially when comparing to more modern autos, that it's
putting out much more grunt from under the hood. It's not ballistically fast,
but the mustang is definitely a quick car, with 0-60 happening in fewer
than 5.6 seconds. The 5 speed manual is fairly precise, but the throws are
somewhat long and a little on the rubbery side. It just doesn't click into
place like it could. However, with all that said, I wouldn't want the car
without it. Handling is certainly great, and is especially good considering
the continued usage of the solid rear axle. It grips the corners well and
steering feel and turn in prove to be pretty sharp. Aug 25, 2011

This 2004 Mustang GT shows almost no wear at all with only 7,400 actual miles. 100% factory original all the way down to the Goodyear Eagles. Kept in garage most all its life. 4.6 V-8, 5 speed, mach audio system, traction control, leather seats, interior upgrade, screaming yellow.Jun 27, 2011

The thing i love about my mustang is its a classic but with a new look mustangs
run in the family alot of my parents generation had one or two threw the years
so i have always liked the look if there was any car i could always point out it
was a mustang, so growing up i always said i will own one some day and the
day i saw the 2000 body style i knew that was the one i wanted and years later
i now own a 2004 40th anniversary Mustang it handles and performs great the
car literally bends with the road and corners when it comes to launching it from
a dead stop it picks up good for what it is i have no complaints couldn't ask for a
better car.Jun 12, 2011

It transforms everyone who sits in the driver seat. It starts when the
engine comes to life with the rumble from the exhaust. Then its just a
matter of seconds as the driver runs through the gears on a full throttle
rocket launch of a ride. Talk about performance...
The only thing negative about this car is me not have buying one sooner!!!Sep 16, 2010

I have wanted a black 40th Anniversary Mustang GT ever since I was 16. I love the 99-04 body style. This car was impressively fast when I first bought it stock, but I learned quickly about their potential as soon as I started to upgrade the engine. Now this thing moves! I love the black on black look and can tell that it definitely turns heads. The exhaust has that great signature Mustang sound that sounds amazing. It's great to take to the drag strip and also perfect for daily driving. The only bad thing about this car is controlling myself enough behind the wheel to stay out of trouble.Jul 27, 2010

Strait from the factory this machine puts out 310 hp, and 335 lb/ft tq. at the crank. Acceleration is pretty impressive, it will pull hard from 0-130mph. The car comes stock with sub frame connectors so off the line you will have no problem hooking up. This car comes standard with the cobra brake system so when you need to stop on a dime it'll do nothing short of that. As far as purchasing aftermarket parts for this car, bolt-ons will not really do awhole lot other than make the car louder. I already have almost 2k into my car. Steeda CAI, Steeda Underdrive pulleys, Steeda tri-ax short throw shifter, Bassani O/R x-pipe, Borla Stingers cat-back exhuast, and a Diablosport Predator Tuner. To be honest, the only thing that I have noticed a power gain from was the tuner. What this car really needs is forced induction, i.e. a supercharger, turbo, or nitrous. I have required no repairs since I have owned the mach. Although my 3rd gear sychronyzer is starting to go, and my clutch is starting to slip a little bit. However I do push her pretty hard on the weekends and at the track. The interior is pretty simple, the black leather seats are very comfortable. Exterior is very unique and stylish. I have been known to get 26+ mpgs on the highway. As far as city driving goes, you better be ready to pay, not to mention the car requires 91 or higher octane. The fun factor is always there, put it this way, you will never hear me say that this car is not fun to drive. Jul 12, 2010

it is a very fun car to drive and race at the track. it eat a lot of gas but is worth it.
interior is leather and exterior is a shadow gray metallic with a shaker hood and bullet rims. it has no problems and has not needed any repair, just regular maintenance. it has great acceleration with a 4.6L v8 and braking is good, handling
is good too. but what makes is more fun is that it is a 5 speed Mach 1.Apr 09, 2010

MACH 1 is one of the craziest mustangs for the New Edge Design. Under the Svt Cobra, mach 1 stands tall. Mach 1 was the new challenger for the Fbodies and now evens stands with the New Challengers and Mustangs.
Just Lovin tha Shaker it changes everything. Gas is bad unless drivin at granny acceleration. Aug 10, 2009

Performance-- most excellent, Ford added some extras to the Mach 1 package; quality-- excellent, only complaint is the shifting is a tad weird but you get used to it; appearance bad a**, cost of ownership -- so far so good; fun factor--it's a Mach 1.......Aug 01, 2009

Performance - for a car that is only powered by a V6 it has great power and acceleration.
Build Quality - I have not needed to do too many repairs, only major thing was the steering fluid was leaking.
Appearance - the exterior of this car I like because of the very sharp edges, but it is also not boxy. The interior is great, the seats are soft, but aren't supportive.
Cost of Ownership - Maintenance has not really been much of an issue, routinely take it in for check ups; gas mileage is ok because it is a V6 but it is not going to win any awards, especially the way I drive.Jul 13, 2009

I love everything about this car except for two minor things. The first is that the seat belt won't retract for some reason, and second it isn't lit up at the ignition where my key goes so it's hard to find in the dark. Otherwise this car is my baby.<3Apr 20, 2009

I love the torque along with the horsepower. Even though I have some custom work with my engine, a basic GT still has great acceleration. It's not too bad on gas mileage, and I use supreme gas. The interior is very basic, I don't really care about that. It's performace is what matters.

I love the color of the car. Sonic Blue and the tan top and interior are a great combination! The 4.6L V8 is very powerful, but paired with an auto just takes the fun out of it. The dual exhaust growls and really gives the car the perfect sound.Jan 08, 2009

I bought this car in June of 2007 with 29,000 miles on it. It was built in August of 2003. It has a 3.8L (232 ci) V6. It produces 193 horsepower and 225 lbs/ft torque. It also came with a 5 speed manual transmission. It produces enough power to be a fun little car, that can easily be daily drive and still look nice. Also there is a large after market for the Mustang that allows for easy customization of the car. The breaks are sufficient along with the handling though some say its too floaty for a sports car. This is fixed on the GT model. Acceleration is quick with 2nd gear at 55, 4th at 115. The car tops out at 125+ mph with the governor off. The quality is good. Everything is tactile, though cheap. The radio is decent, and the seats are comfortable though fitting more than 4 in the car becomes difficult. The trunk is decent as well, not offer too much room but enough for a pair of golf bags. Like any Ford it does not like the winter or the cold. It squeaks though those are easily tuned out by the engine. The only repairs it has needed was a new serpentine belt at 60,000 miles, and of course regular oil changes Appearance is classic American Muscle coupe
with a long hood and short rear deck and spoiler. Cost is cheap. It gets about 16mpg in the city and 29 on the highway. Maintenance is cheap as well, just basic up keep. The Fun Factor for the car is decent. It's fun, quick, and a sporty car for the value

This car looks great. If you take care of a car like this it can be an eye catcher. Not to mention everyone likes a mustang whether they admit it or not. The performance on it is average seeing as all i have is a V6 with an automatic. The steering and handling on in couldn't be better though. Its one sharp car. Now that I have one, my dad is talking about getting a GT.Aug 26, 2008

what i like about my car are the BBK shorty headers, the 45% reduction under drive pulley set, the mac cold air intake, the BBK 65mm TB (throttle body), the surge MAF(Mass Air Flow)chip. i also like my limo tint, my orange paint, and my 18x9's in front and i like my 18x10's in the rear, and the 1 1/2 inch lowering springs from ebiach. what i don't like about my car is the dent that got put into it and the hole my dad put in my front bumper :( haha

Very fast car and a lot of fun. The 99-04 mustangs are the best looking in my opinion. Much of the interior feels cheap. The sound of the doors closing drives me crazy and there are gaps in the panels but the styling is nice. With gas prices still going up this probably isn't the best daily driver, but It really is a pleasure to drive.Jun 26, 2008

You would think that because it's a Ford, it's an unreliable vehicle but this one has been very reliable. Routine maintenance is all I've done to it.
Out of the box performance is very good, but it could be better, and that's why there is a huge aftermarket available for these cars.
I get compliments on it all the time and I love every bit of it. Dec 26, 2007

The exterior is clean. No cladding, no moldings, just clean styles and curves. The
interior is a bit cramped in the back, definitely defining this as a 2+2 coupe.
Handling is very spirited, with only the open differential taking away from it. 0-60
is quick, being 8 seconds flat. It feels faster than it is.Dec 26, 2007

I have a P0340 code, car died at a red light, no crank, no click, replaced parts in order, starter, alternator, fuel pump, battery, on replacing the battery the car finally roared back to life, sounded like it was way off timing, gave me this code, only to die for the second time, I have a starter click, but no crank, before I go any further I would really appreciate if someone could give me the wiring diagram for the camshaft A circuit and anything it would be worked in conjunction with (because the P0340), I would also be grateful if this issue has ever been reported anywhere before, and how it was fixed, 2004 V6 3.8L AUTO ford mustang, 50th anniversary
