The 2002 Ford Mustang gave more choices to its fans: new colors, new radios, and new packages with new stripes. The engine choices were pared down a bit, as the Cobra was not offered in this model year, with Ford instead choosing to build up for the 2003 release.
The standard engine was a 3.8-liter OHV V6, rated at 193 horsepower, while the GT was offered with a 4.6-liter SOHC V8, rated at 260 horsepower. The Saleen earned a 285-horsepower rating, but was, of course, intended to be tuned. A Series V twin-screw supercharger could give the machine over 425 horses!

I really like the gas mileage, the sporty ride & using it in the summertime with the top down. I love the sound system & leather interior. I especially love the looks & nice comments about it. Makes me feel proud. Fine carMar 19, 2015

Great little sports car for the price. Parts are easily accesable. Gets about 22 MPG average. Is comfortable on the road, even on long trips. Highway mileage has been as good as 28 MPG. Definately not a family car. Very lettle room in the back seat and if you have a good bit of cargo, you have to fill the back seat, trunk is very small.Oct 08, 2014

I bought a black 2002 V6 Mustang. I had bought a new 2008 Dodge Avenger since I had good luck with a 89 Dodge Daytona for 16 years. The first new car I ever bought and it was worst. AFTER OVER $3,000 dollars in repairs and two fires that was it. I said I'm going backwards, No more new cars. My Mustang is much more better built inside and out. If people don't like the interior they outta look at a 2008 Dodge Avenger. Lol The Mustang seems to be easy to change things out. The oil pan is the only thing I see as a pain. I hadn't had to change it. The motor has to be lifted to change the gasket. Besides that I love the car. Remember, You are buying an older car. That doesn't mean that's bad. Find out what was already done if you can. The rear engine seals do leak and people do have trouble with the sending unit. Mine was replaced and I calibrated the gauge myself and now it's better keeping track of gas. As for going up hills, I have no idea why some people said on here no power uphill. That's one thing I appreciate, Because my 2008 Avenger was terrible going uphill. This flies uphill. One more thing, People reading these reviews are not reading about the car being new. These cars have probably been through two or three owners. Remember some people that bought the car used and it's already 10 or more years old do not know if it's been abused, etc. So they give bad ratings. I was fortunate to buy from a second owner and it had been garaged in the winter and had all receipts for work done. ALWAYS check Carfax. I think you can run the VIN number through a Ford dealership and see what has been done IF they even used a dealership. UPDATE: 1 year later : I still love the car. No problems.Oct 10, 2013

Extremely fast car and way to much fun which cause me to sell it before I got into trouble. The style was very sporty and thrilling. I did not have any issues with this car and for a V8 the gas mileage wasn't to bad.May 04, 2011

This mustang gt is really fun to drive! The maintenance is pretty easy, things are easy to fix on your own and are relatively cheap if not able to fix by self. Has a cold air intake and U/D pullies.Jan 08, 2011

A performance bargain, and the only muscle car that has
endured for more than 45 years. I purchased this car in late August
2009 with 5,298 miles on the odometer.
Positives:
Styling, acceleration, braking, handling (to an extent), V-8 rumble
Negatives:
Chassis dates back to 1979, solid rear axle, hops over bumps, interior
fit and finish leaves something to be desiredNov 03, 2010

Amazing acceleration, decent brakes, and great handling. This is my second mustang and I love it! I had a '97 Camaro and a '02 Z28 Camaro and neither came close to my GT's performance. Gas mileage (city) is not great, but highway is okay. Black leather interior is nice.

The 1999-2004 Mustang GT "New Edge" body-style of the SN-95 that still sits on the old fox body platform is my absolute favorite Mustang that Ford produced. The 2v 4.6L V8 producing 260 bhp and 302 ft-lbs of torque in stock form sounds like an absolute beast. Mine is attatched to an off-road x-pipe with 4" magnaflow tips at the end so its got a really great, deep burble. Performance is great except I'd like just little bit more power (who wouldn't) from the 4.6. Build quality is amazing. Mine has just under a century in miles and honestly, the car will run another 200k. Cost of ownership is nice and low and I'll tell you what, even if it was high, I'd pay it because rolling down the road in this gorgeous piece of machinary with the rumble of that V8 under your right foot is worth every penny.Jul 27, 2010

Performance - Brakes and handling could be a little bit better but that is what makes this car fun to drive. For acceleration let me just say this... Torque>Horsepower.
Build Quality - This car has proved to be reliable so far.
Appearance - The outside looks aggressive and is one the main reason I bought this year of Stang. Inside is bland though but does have more space than my Stealth.
Cost of Ownership - Gas mileage averages around 20, but I also have a 4.10 in the rear and I baby it a lot. Parts are cheap compared to my Stealth and have not had any problems with it yet.
Fun Factor - Is this car fun to drive? Ummm.... YEAH!!!!Jul 18, 2010

LOVE THIS CAR! Not to pleased with the fact that Ford only squeezed 270 out of a 4.6L, but that's where we tuners get to play right? She's good off the start, and keeps hauling until 5th. Haven't had to many problems, only replaced brakes and turned rotors. Had an electrical issue, but cleaning the contacts and buying one of those anti oxidation kits fixed that up right quick. She looks good, would like to put new paint, and definitely need to replace the headlights. She drinks gas, so if your an eco kind of person, not for you. Eats tires too if you give her the throttle pretty hard, but be gentle, and you can keep a pair of rears on pretty long.
So far, this stang has a K&N CAI, and the exhaust has been replaced, but I don't much about it other than it has a H pipe, resonators and such that aren't stock. Next on the list is an Edelbrock throttle body, some headers, and finally a tune once she's decked out....until I find a twin screw for her!May 03, 2010

The Mustang GT's performance is good, acceleration will out do your average sports car and overall handling is satisfactory. Mustangs one down fall is the stock brake system, it is horrible and not a good fit for the cars power and weight.
I could not have asked for a more reliable sports car. I have a 2002 with not one problem or one repair needed since having it. Car feels and sounds soilid, with the convertible top up, outside noises are minimal, although the engine roar can be heard throughout the cabin.
Even though I have an older Generation, I have people stop me on the road to compliment on its looks. This car is definetly a head turner. Interior styling won't disappoint when you decide to drop the top. Black leather with horse symbol accents throughout the car make the cheap off color accents of a chevy seem just plain sad.
Cost of maintenance is reasonable, gas mileage is whats expected for an 8cyl. I average 18-20Mpg spirited driving.
Overall if you are looking for a good priced sports car with power; mustang is your choice. Between the sporty styling and aggressive behavior on the road, this car will never let you loose interest.

performance is great, handling is really good. it only had a
minor repair to the hood latch assembly, along with needing a replacement stereo system, since the CD player doesn't work
anymore. I do really good on gas, it takes about $28 to fill my
car with Premium gas. My car is really fun to drive and i
wouldn't trade it for anything. This was a great first car for
me.Dec 20, 2009

I love my car, it has great pick up, and speed, too bad I don't live where there is no speed limit restrictions, cuz I would love to open her for the real test. There isn't much that I can say neg. about it. The only thing is it sucks in the snow. Oct 18, 2009

The 2v v8 packs some grunt, and makes all the right noises.
The brakes need to be beefier to handle real spirited driving.
The build quality is not that bad, it feels right and rides quite.
The appearance is good stock, looks better after doing some mods to it. Aug 14, 2009

Powerful and stylish, it was easily the best choice for the
money. If you were looking for a sporty car that seated four
passengers (four adults if all in shape) and was a smooth ride.

Performance - When I first bought it, it was a little lacking in power. After port polishing, uper intake manifold work, new throttlebody, cold air kit, aluminum flywheel, spec stage 2 clutch, aluminum driveshaft, limited slip diff, cat delete and glasspacks... it beat a 2006 mustang Gt. Last 0-60 run was 5.5 sec.. handles ok on the track, a little too much body roll for my liking but nothing that new springs and shocks couldn't fix.
Build Quality - Interior is very nice, but loud. No major repairs needed (only 47k miles). Brakes squeak sometimes.
Appearance - It has the rare Strawberry red wich really makes it stand out. Interior is very basic.. it is meant to be driven.
Cost of Ownership - Gas mileage is excelent , 30 city, 35-40 highway.. on unleaded. Only major maintnenance I had to deal with was a new clutch because it started to rip the old one apart after I added too much power.
Fun Factor - This car is excellent to drive.. loud, fast, and cheap. Perfect car for an 18 year old on a budget. Mar 29, 2009

The base model Mustang's 193hp V6 was horribly weak. It couldn't beat most 4 cylinder's on the streets. However, mine had several desirable features, such as a true dual exhaust, cold air intake, nice tint, and several other mods. It gave it a great sound and look. However, It was not practical to have with a baby. So it went bye bye ...Dec 31, 2008

This car had pretty decent horsepower from the factory. Although the power on mine has been upped by a supercharger. It handles pretty well with the factory suspension. The factory Mach audio is one of the best stock systems out there. Gas mileage is decent from the factory, if you know how to drive you should be able to get 24-25mpg. Overall this car is awesome quality with great performance and reliability.Oct 21, 2008

The Mustang is the quintessential American muscle car and it was an absolute thrill to pull up to and away from a traffic light and hear those eight cylinders roar. The disappointment was the quality of the interior and the necessity for repairs. I only kept it for a little over a year, but there are many days when I'd like to have it back.Aug 25, 2008

This is a great car to start with and make your own mods to. You can get as much power or more with the V-6 than the V-8 and pay alot less on insurance. Has great power and handles like a dream. Great for drifting or for straight up racing. Too easy to get performance upgrades and parts online or thru companies like BBK, MAC, Borla, etc. I would rather have my v6 than an 8 any day.Jul 30, 2008

The interior is nice, leather bucket seats, 6 disc CD changer, the dash layout is pretty good. The acceleration is nice, but the brakes could be better. I don't like that the hood is plastic and that the hood scoop serves no real purpose. Also, the plastic covering the headlights tends to cloud up with age (I have seen this on plenty of other cars, not just mine). Overall, I'm quite happy with the car.Apr 20, 2008

I got this car at the end of last summer and it's amazing. Cabin cools quickly, rear 50/50 seats allow for plenty of storage, leg room is good in front. The car handles very well with relatively tight steering. Sound system is good and it came with a factory installed CD player (I put in an aftermarket one for my iPod), the tinted glass is great and allows for plenty of privacy.Mar 30, 2008

Well start with exterior: Silver with custom side exhaust, 5 spoke rims, and a body kit. It's a V6 so there's still room for some improvement. It also has a custom roll bar with brake light and a nice hood scoop.
Interior: All grey leather with Mustang Pony embrourdered, 6 disk CD changer built in with Mach sound system, total of 8 speakers. Two toned dash and stering wheel and only 50,000 miles.Mar 26, 2008

This car is one of the best finds for it's price. It comes with 262 horsepower, and you can expect to pay no more than $15-16,000...from a dealership. If you buy private party this beauty shouldn't be more than $14,000. I don't love this car for it's power alone, its sleek body style is much more aggressive than its more recent predecessors. The interior is also beyond anything I would expect in a car under 20 grand.Dec 22, 2007
I have a v6 I just wanna know what to do to get a little rumble on startup/ on acceleration I KNOW I KNOW its not a v8 stang never will get that sound, but im not looking for loud loud just a lil something to feel its a mustang u know? What can I do? Would only doing a flowmaster muffler change it a small bit to get some turn the key rumble? Please help I don't want major v8 just some rumble
am currently scratching my head on this one. When I close, open or use my keypad to lock or unlock the doors my lights on the mirror stay on for a timed 35 minutes. I will tell you this is a salvage car and was just now fixed, I have no idea if something was knocked loose in the crash or what has happened.
yeah I am when I drive the car feels like it's going to fall apart and it feels like it's sitting on the ground when I'm driving and that is pretty much all I have the picture that I am sending is a picture of when I first got it so that is not exactly what it looks like but ain't nothing damage damaged so I don't know what it could be if thank you for your opinion if you have one please get a hold of me my number is set 317-442-8573 and if you cannot reach me on that number my email address is Michael Rogers 592@gmail.com
Since owning the car, (April 2012), I've had a problem with the Service Engine Soon light staying on. The diagnosis came back that the hot air sensor was faulty. I've had it changed as well as a couple of coils that went bad. I bought a set of headers, because of an exhaust leak, (headers were rotted) and still the light stays on and says it's the hot air sensor.
I'm doing a power train swap on my 2002 3.8l mustang and was wondering if the wire harness for the interior is the same as the gt or if I would have to swap it out
