I'm the 2nd owner and I've been using it as a daily-driver for over 13 years. It's a great vehicle overall; I can comfortably fit family in it on the bench seat and it has child locks! The folding down rear seats are invaluable for moving a lot of stuff and I couldn't live without my sunroof! It's comfortable on long trips and I've never gotten stuck in the snowy mountains or on the beach.Nov 24, 2014

I loved this car, but it had some minor factory issues mainly due to design I think that should have been fixed. I thought overall it was a fine car, and with the LS top of the line model I had I couldnt complain about options, which for 1999 was plentiful. One of the best factory audio systems I have owned, and loved the wood grain in the dash. Aug 29, 2014

i like the way the body style of the car i don't like lower intake leaking or miss fire or the paint oxidation but other than that it would be reliable car but gm made gasket where they would only last 20.000 mil please help me i just got car did not expect to get this many problemsMar 02, 2014

I have owned 5 chevy malibu's so far and i am sure that i will own more in the future. These cars are very reliable, strong running, and very little problems. If you want a car that is inexpensive, reliable, and safe, I recommend the chevy malibu!Dec 14, 2013

Have owned for 13 years. Cost of ownership very reasonable. Handles well. Interior could have better finishes, lots of plastic and fabric on rear dash is deteriorated. It is good commuter car. Tight for family of five to take on long trips. Brake lines needed to be replaced as GM seems to have problems with them across their brands.Jan 22, 2013

Just a great, overall, practical car... Fun to drive. Felt safe 'cause it/the engine were very reliable. Maintenance didn't break the bank. Handles well. Gonna' feel sad when I part with it. I've had it for 11 years!! Love it! :-)Jan 11, 2012

this car handles wonderfully! it gets amazing gas mileage about 33-35 miles per gallon high way and thats at an average of 75-80 mph. i love the pick up no problems getting out into rush hour traffic. it is an old car so it needs some tlc but its worth it to keep it up. love this car. only minus is you need really good tires in snowy weather.Nov 15, 2011

well what can i say about a mailbu...there a fun car to drive and can be made to look sharp..peformance modification are chaep and easy to do...but after 200000 miles parts start breaking one right after anotherSep 17, 2010

its a 1999 chevy malibu ls with 3.8l 305 hp engine from a pontiac grand prix engine and it has paint brakes and soon spolier and subs and amp and more to come on the interior and rims soon i have a glasspack and a 4inch can on itMar 08, 2010

Over all, I have to admit that this car, (99 malibu, 4 cyl), has actually impressed me and my attidude towards chevy/gm. That said, I have owned nothing less (else) than Ford. But, after inheriting this GM vehicle, for reasons in-important, I have to admit that my this malibu has unpresidently changed my view towards GM (at least these years/models). My Malibu is 11 years old now and I have not had any "Major" issues with it other than having to replace the fuel pump..but thats my fault..(cheap gas/low tank). Its a great and reliable car with plenty of room for "unexpected activities"!Feb 17, 2010

that car sucks in performance. body roll like not other. slow acceleration. engine repairs majorly. head gaskets like to blow easy. interior styling is weak. basically set up for old people. V6 is like owning a grand prix gtp. gas hog. the car isnt fun to drive more like an embarassment.Oct 18, 2009

Perfornace - accelerated well, did not brake, handled ok for the type of car, not so good mpg. Built quality - disaster. Appearance- the only good hing going for it. Cost of ownership - once the warranty wore you were fried. Fun factor - not build for fun.Jul 05, 2009

I've had this car for 6 years and still love it. Acceleration has always been great, being a 6-cylinder, and despite the automatic transmission. It brakes and handles pretty smoothly, even now with 150,000 miles. Repairs and maintenance have been minimal - mostly brakes, tires, water pump, serpentine belt. Mostly mechanically sound, aside from power window motors breaking and interior fan only works on high. Minor rust around back tire wells. Outside appearance is pretty mild - an average looking mid-size sedan. Interior is the same, with grey fabric seats and grey dash. The gas mileage is surprisingly good, as I've gotten close to 40mpg highway on trips. It's roomy, comfortable, very dependable, and I dread the day we get rid of this car!Jan 18, 2009

My car is the most amazing car ever invented! Ive ran it into fences, off cliffs (seriously), other cars... and it has hardly any dents at all! Sadly though, its old, and once upon a time it could kick a little bit of ass on the road, but not anymore. Now its just a lowly 4 cylinder with an attitude. None the less, i love my little baby and when she kicks the bucket I would LOVE to have a V6 version of her. Jan 15, 2009

We bought this car used, at a dealer, when it had not even been cleaned up from the previous owner at trade in. It was a bargain, but, since owning it, it has had NUMEROUS "gremlins" plague it.....including the necessity of replacing the engine due to an overheat with the water pump. Most cars bought used, you expect maintenance, but this car has been a nickel- and-dime money pit after the first year of ownership. Keeping it cuz its paid off....that is the ONLY reason.Nov 16, 2008

Its got balls. The only race I've ever lost in my malibu (Bone stock) was against a corvette. Fun to drive fast, to have that feeling of being on the edge because you know a 4 door family sedan should not corner that well normally. It has needed a new alternator though.. and its leaking Coolant from the intake manifold which suggests it needs a new intake manifold gasket a whopping 10 hours of labour typically assuming everything goes well. Looks good outside and in. Gas mileage isnt so bad for a 6cylinder. 150hp and 180ft-lbs is pretty fun. Recommend for the daily driver who needs to go a little bit quicker if they want to.Aug 02, 2008

i bought the 99 malibu for $500 bucks with 250,000 clics, its at 270,000 and i've owned it for 3 months ..the only thing done to it was front brake bads and a bottle of prestone super stop leak to seal the intake manifold from leaking coolant and causing overheating, and now replacing a wheel bearing...the gas mileage is good and the car has no rust (surprisingly) i guess its one of those deals were u get lucky, i think i've got my monies worth and plan on keeping the car a little longerJul 22, 2008

My car is amazing! I just added a cold air intake to it and the things roars like a kitten! i love this car and its like my 2nd girlfriend, i love it, its comfy and everything that i like is pretty much for it. YAY!!! the only thing i don't care for is that the radio doesn't pull in the radio stations to well, so i'm trying to find out what i could do to try and fix this problem. But over all i love this car, and i know that the 3.1L motor will last a long time cuz i had that same motor in my last car and it was a tad over 250,xxx miles on it when i sold it. so i know this car will last me and its going to be all goodJul 07, 2008

1999 chevy Malibu, rear end fishtailing, then major wobble

The last 2 days my 1999 chevy Malibu has started to fishtail as im driving down a dry straight road with very few bumps, it starts to pull to the right and when i slightly correct it it'll veer left alot more than i had anticipated so i left off the gas and it feels like i just hit ice and my rear end starts sliding all over the place and i have a hard time regaining control, i left my boyfriend take over driving today and it started doing a major wobble like one of the tires were about to blow but stopped when we slowed way down, all lug nuts are tight as possible and all tire pressures are exactly where their supposed to be. Can anyone tell me what is happening with my car????

Overheating Engine

I have a 99 Chevy Malibu, and I was wondering what temp it should run at by looking at the gauge. On a hot day of driving in town it will raise 2 lines above the half way point of the temp. gauge. Is this normal operating or should it stay in the middle? Thanks...

Can runs rough

I change my cam shaft and crank shaft sensor as well as the coil pack, the only way it cranks up is if i mash the gas peddle to the floor and it runs really rough it want accelerate i believe. Please help me!

No Spark Condition

Driving the highway to work, car dies suddenly. Instrument panel shuts off for literally split second, then comes back on, but car won't start. Have done the appropriate testing of fuel and compression for several different causes of this, and everything from pump to injectors is fine. Camshaft isn't broken, and my timing is correct. No diagnostic codes, so naturally I replaced both (24x) and (7x) crank sensors, as well as timing chain and cogs. Also, the replacement part list includes: EGR, Idle Air Control, plugs, wires, throttle body, air filter, all 3 coil packs, ignition control module. Have narrowed it down to either theft system, bad cranking amps, or a shorted ground, but don't really see evidence of any of these. I'm a single dad who is alone with no options, so this car is my life. I'm a damn good mechanic, and know quite a bit, but this has me stumped.
