What’s New for the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu
The 2023 Malibu gains more driver-assistance tech for its list of standard features. The 2.0-liter engine has been dropped from the lineup.
Design
The Chevy Malibu has has clean lines and a generally handsome design. Though ambitious when it first debuted, the rest of the segment has embraced bolder designs, making the Malibu a refreshingly restrained choice. The Malibu comes standard with 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The LT trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels. 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels are available.
Powertrain
As mentioned, the 2.0-liter engine has been dropped from the Malibu for 2023, leaving the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the only engine option. It makes 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission. This powertrain returns fuel economy of 30 mpg city, 35 highway, 30 combined.
Interior
Trims for the 2023 Chevy Malibu are LS, RS, LT, and 2LT. Standard features on the LS include remote keyless entry, power-adjustable side mirrors, and manually adjustable front seats. The RS trim adds a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The LT trim adds dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, satellite radio, and remote start. The range-topping 2LT trim features heated-and-ventilated front seats, an additional USB port (charging only), a Bose premium stereo system, and leather upholstery. The Malibu provides 15.7 cubic feet of trunk space, which is average for the midsize sedan segment.
Technology
The Malibu comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen that runs an easy-to-use infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. It also comes standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot. The range-topping 2LT trim adds an 8-inch digital instrument panel screen and wireless device charging.
Safety
Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. The vehicle comes with GM’s Teen Driver system, which lets the owner set volume and speed limitations for a second set of keys. For 2023, the Malibu also comes with Buckle to Drive. If the driver’s seat belt is not fastened, it will prevent the driver from putting the car into Drive for up to 20 seconds. Moving up to the RS trim adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. An automatic self-parking assistant is available as an option.
Pricing
At the time of this writing, the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu has a base MSRP of $26,095 for an entry-level LS trim. The RS trim starts at $27,095 and the LT trim starts at $29,195. The range-topping 2LT trim starts at $32,595. The Chevrolet Malibu is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
