What’s New for the 2023 Subaru Legacy
The Legacy receives some styling updates for 2023. Subaru has also expanded the model's upgraded engine to the Sport trim. You could previously only get it in the range-topping XT trim.
Design
Trims for the 2023 Legacy are Base, Premium, Limited, Sport, and Touring XT. All trims receive a new, aggressive front-end design. The Base trim includes 17-inch alloy wheels. The Limited trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels and fog lights. The Sport trim features a rear spoiler and unique styling elements.
Powertrain
The standard engine in the 2023 Subaru Legacy is a 2.5-liter horizontally opposing four-cylinder. It produces 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. Sport and Touring XT trims come equipped with a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. Both engines route power through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD).
The base powertrain returns fuel economy of 27 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined. The turbocharged powertrain returns 23 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined.
Interior
Standard features on the Base trim for 2023 include remote keyless entry, cloth upholstery, manually adjustable front seats, a USB port, and automatic climate control. The Premium trim adds three additional USB ports, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Moving up to the Limited trim adds leather upholstery, an upgraded stereo, a power-adjustable front-passenger seat, and heated rear seats. In addition to the upgraded engine and a sport-tuned suspension, the Sport trim adds push-button start, a power moonroof, and a heated steering wheel. The range-topping Touring XT trim adds navigation and ventilated front seats. All trims provide 15.5 cubic feet of trunk space.
Technology
There are two infotainment setups offered in the Legacy. The Base trim comes with two 7-inch touch screens. The lower screen handles the climate control and other vehicle systems. The upper screen is where one operates entertainment functions, including the stereo, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. All other trims feature an 11.6-inch touchscreen in a portrait orientation. Its operation has a steeper learning curve, but it does provide wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.
Safety
The 2023 Legacy comes standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of advanced driver-assistance features. These include forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, a head-up display, and lane-departure warning. Limited, Sport, and Touring XT trims come with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert (these features are optional on the Premium trim). Other available safety features include driver-attention monitoring and reverse automatic emergency braking. The Legacy earns a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and earns an overall best score of “Good” from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
Pricing
At the time of this writing, the 2023 Subaru Legacy has a base MSRP of $24,395. The Premium trim starts at $26,695, and the Limited starts at $31,445. The Sport trim starts at $33,895, and the range-topping Touring XT starts at $37,695. The Subaru Legacy is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
