1999 Hyundai Sonata Reviews, Pricing & Specs

Very comfortable and quite car with loads of features. Had standard features that weren't even available as options on the Accord and cost thousands less. However, the optional V6 was not nearly as powerful as the V6 options for the Accord... It's performance was a HUGE step down from my previous car, a Grand National. Fuel economy was not as good as you would expect for the level of performance, but then, with all the options, even with the aluminum V6, it was a pretty heavy car. I would have loved this car because of its comfort, ride quality, and extra features, however, the ownership cost was excessive. The car had a great warranty, but to maintain the warranty required very expensive routine maintenance. The required transmission services and timing belt changes were astronomically expensive. After the warranty expires, you learn that even simple repair tasks are made difficult and expensive because of poor accessibility to most parts of the drivetrain.
