Recently, prices have come down for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.
Is the Toyota Sequoia a good car?
Yes — the Toyota Sequoia earns strong marks from owners, and its appeal is anchored by a spacious cabin, dependable powertrains, and strong towing ability. The all-generations owner rating is 4.63/5 across every model year in the data.
Owners consistently praise the Sequoia for its roomy three-row layout, comfortable ride, and rugged, truck-based character. Reliability and long-term durability also come up often, especially for shoppers who want a family SUV with real capability. Many owners also value its strong performance, particularly when towing.
Expert reviews rate the 2024 and 2022 models among the highest across all years.
The main trade-offs are fuel economy, cargo packaging, and handling, especially in recent years where the hybrid setup improves efficiency but still leaves the Sequoia with modest gains. Some expert reviews also point to a cramped third row and a truck-like ride, so you should expect a large SUV that emphasizes capability and space over polish.
34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
Are Toyota Sequoia models reliable?
Owners consistently praise the Sequoia for durability, dependable powertrains, and strong long-term usefulness. Expert reviews also reinforce that reputation by highlighting its rugged construction and proven truck-based hardware.
- Owners rate the Toyota Sequoia between 3.75 and 5.0 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.
For used buyers, the long-term ownership picture looks strongest when you choose a well-kept example with a clean history and service records, especially on older model years.
What should I look for when buying a used Toyota Sequoia?
Across all model years, accident-free inventory is solid at 79.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 97% |
| 2025 | 95.5% |

| 2017 | 55.1% |
| 2016 | 55.6% |
| 2015 | 55% |
| 2014 | 59.1% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 suite, plus blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, with a 14-inch touchscreen available.
- Fuel efficiency: It’s EPA rated at up to 21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 19/22/20 mpg with 4WD.
Which Toyota Sequoia trim should I buy?
The 2026 Toyota Sequoia offers these trims:
- SR5: The entry trim starts the lineup with cloth upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen, and the core Sequoia formula; it’s the value-focused starting point.
- Limited: This trim adds more comfort and convenience, and it’s a smart step up if you want a better-equipped family SUV.
- Platinum: This version adds more luxury touches, including contrast stitching, and suits shoppers who want a more upscale cabin.
- TRD Pro: This is the off-road model, with all-terrain tires, an off-road-tuned suspension, a front grille light bar, an aluminum front skid plate, and all-weather floor mats.
- 1794 Edition: This Texas-themed luxury trim adds a more upscale character for buyers who want a distinctive premium feel.
- Capstone: The top trim adds body-colored wheel flares and contrast stitching, making it the most premium-looking choice in the lineup.
What Toyota Sequoia do most buyers choose?
The Toyota Sequoia years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 1,368 | 36.6% |
| 2024 | 1,342 | 37.5% |
| 2023 | 938 | 37.4% |
| 2026 | 811 | 36.9% |
| 2022 | 441 | 38.8% |
| 2017 | 303 | 36.3% |
Those higher-volume years tend to be the most popular used picks because they give you the broadest selection of trims, prices, and condition levels. They also sit close enough to the newest generation to offer modern features while still giving you more inventory to compare.
What is the Toyota Sequoia's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | $65,450 | −8.47% |
| 2025 | $70,661 | −7.78% |
| 2023 | $60,661 | −7.45% |
| 2015 | $20,314 | −6.99% |
| 2017 | $27,542 | −6.98% |
| 2014 | $19,719 | −6.67% |
| 2016 | $24,058 | −5.58% |
| 2020 | $42,740 | −5.27% |
| 2021 | $47,586 | −0.82% |
| 2018 | $33,430 | −0.51% |
| 2019 | $38,130 | +3.66% |
Most Sequoia model years are moving lower year over year, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. A few years are much closer to flat, and one year is rising, so the market is not moving in one straight line across the board. The biggest drops are concentrated in the newer model years, while some older years are changing only slightly.
The 2018 and 2021 model years are holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year.
The 2019, 2018, and 2021 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Toyota Sequoia safe?
- 2026: 7/10
- 2025: 5/10
- 2024: 10/10
- 2023: 10/10
- 2022: 7/10
- 2021: 5/10
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is standard on the 2026 Toyota Sequoia, along with blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
For the safest used buy, the 2023 and 2024 models both post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Toyota Sequoia now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −7.78% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −8.47%.
- Deal availability: The 2025 model has 36.6% good and great deals, and the 2024 model has 37.5%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2025 model has the most listings at a current average price of $70,661. The Toyota Sequoia offers a roomy three-row cabin and strong towing-focused capability that make it a practical full-size SUV for families and road trips.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: A twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 makes 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque, and an electric motor between the engine and 10-speed automatic transmission can add 48 hp and 184 lb-ft to aid acceleration.
- Tech: The Sequoia has a standard 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and moving up just one trim level or checking an option box on the base SR5 trim brings a 14-inch touchscreen.
- Safety: Toyota equips the Sequoia with its Safety Sense 2.5 suite of standard safety features, and also standard but not part of Safety Sense 2.5 are blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Starting price: Prices start at $67,920, including a mandatory $2,195 destination fee, for the SR5.
If you're buying used today, the 2025 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Customers say
The Toyota Sequoia has garnered positive feedback from owners across its model years, primarily for its spaciousness, reliability, and strong performance, especially in towing. Drivers frequently highlight its comfortable ride and ample cargo space as standout features, making it a great choice for families and road trips. However, a common criticism is its fuel economy, which many consider to be below expectations, especially for a full-size SUV. Additionally, some owners have expressed disappointment regarding outdated interior designs and the limited tech features in earlier models. Despite these drawbacks, the Sequoia remains a solid option for those prioritizing space and dependability.

This is my 4th Toyota suv. I’ve had a ‘00 4runner, ‘07 RAV4, and a 2016 4runner. My first time experiencing the Sequoia Limited’s v8 and have absolutely loved it. This is our dream family car. The space is incredible, the power, and durability of Toyotas never cease to amaze me. It’s perfect for mountain life daily ascents and descents. Has the best turn radius of any full sized suv I’ve driven - making it super friendly for switchback roads and city outings as well. I know this will be the adventure-forward family hauler we were looking for. We bought high mileage (> 200k) with zero hesitation since we know Toyotas well and this beast will get us at least 10 years of drivability. You know when you buy a Toyota you’re not getting the most luxe experience from a creature comforts perceptive. It’s important to note that a vehicle that starts no matter what is more important to us than having Bluetooth etc. but the experience still feels luxurious with many adapters on the market these days.

I love everything about the Sequoia except for the cargo space.

Dealership was honest. Truck has a completely rusted frame. Engine sounds good. Interior was clean. The only reason the buy this is fir a frame swap or to take the engine/transmission and parts. I wouldn't pay more 2500 for it. I honestly think it would have a hard time passing NC inspection. I would trust driving it for maybe 3 or 4 years.

smooth ride and tons of features. I think the price is high for a used vehicle even though they are dependable. the vehicle has everything except for options to add more control switches. would only compare to suburban for space however not for dependability

CarGurus recommends the 2024 Toyota Sequoia

Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Toyota Sequoia 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia stands out for pairing full-size SUV utility with a standard hybrid powertrain. According to the test-drive summary, that hybrid setup brings improved fuel economy along with increased towing and hauling power, while the Sequoia’s tech updates were widely celebrated and its facelift was considered unobjectionable even by harsh critics. It also comes with standard advanced safety features, easy-to-use technology, and a generous list of premium features, which helps it feel well equipped right from the start.
The tradeoff is space. The same summary notes that the move to hybrid power reduced cargo room and third-row space to make room for the battery, and the pros and cons call out a cramped third row and not much cargo space. Even so, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia remains distinctive because it offers a blend of seating capacity, towing strength, and fuel efficiency that is unusual in its class, especially since it is described as the only hybrid in that segment.
