Why it stands out
The Toyota Sequoia stands out in the full-size SUV segment by being the only hybrid option, providing an impressive blend of seating capacity, towing power, and fuel efficiency. With its robust truck-based platform, it boasts a remarkable towing capability of up to 9,520 pounds, making it suitable for both family adventures and heavy hauling. Additionally, the latest models feature advanced technology such as a large infotainment screen and standard safety features like Toyota Safety Sense, enhancing the overall driving experience.
Other model years to consider
The 2015 and 2016 Toyota Sequoia model years stand out as strong alternatives due to their excellent user ratings and affordability, with average prices of approximately $20,411 and $24,980, respectively. Both years also feature a significant percentage of good or great deals at 38%, providing buyers with ample inventory options. The 2014 model year is another moderately suitable choice, maintaining a high user rating and a competitive average price of around $21,451 while still offering good deal percentages.
Model years to approach with caution
The Toyota Sequoia has faced notable challenges in its recent model years, particularly with the 2023 and 2025 models, which have garnered mixed user feedback despite higher average prices. Users have expressed concerns about the perceived value in these newer models, as a significant percentage are rated as not providing good or great deals. In contrast, older models like the 2001 and 2009 versions maintain higher user ratings but also show a pattern of limited market appeal due to their age and associated pricing dynamics.

The Toyota Sequoia has garnered positive feedback from owners across its model years, primarily for its spaciousness, reliability, and strong performance, especially in towing. Drivers frequently highlight its comfortable ride and ample cargo space as standout features, making it a great choice for families and road trips. However, a common criticism is its fuel economy, which many consider to be below expectations, especially for a full-size SUV. Additionally, some owners have expressed disappointment regarding outdated interior designs and the limited tech features in earlier models. Despite these drawbacks, the Sequoia remains a solid option for those prioritizing space and dependability.

What people say
I love everything about the Sequoia except for the cargo space.
Perfect balance of practicality and good looks. Not to mention Toyota quality.
Toyota is the best at what they do, that includes the SUV game. The Sequoia has everything one needs and then some.
The 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is everything I expected. I only ever heard of these online/videos. It’s everything you want in an off-road SUV. The Toyota TRD Pro line is the best.
I drive a 2016 Sequoia,. I love the way it works for our large family! When I saw the new looks I was excited! I finally got to test drive one last week and was really disappointed. It no longer has the spacious interior that works for a large family. I’d say anyone. Over 5”6 in height will start to be too big for the back seats. My kids hated it in the back and begged me not to buy it. I wish they could have updated the look - and kept the functionality that families have loved for decades. The positives are that It handles well, is better on gas, is really great to look at and has great features. But the new ones no longer have space in the back for taller kids and all your stuff.
