Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automated lane-change assist, evasive steering assistance, automatic reverse braking, a semi-automated parking system, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: All 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models have a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a native navigation system with augmented reality video overlays, voice recognition, and a Burmester surround-sound system.
- Fuel efficiency: The S 580e is the efficiency leader of the lineup, with 48 miles of electric range and 23 mpg in combined driving once the battery is depleted.
Which Mercedes-Benz S-Class trim should I buy?
The 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers these trims:
- S 500: The entry point brings a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, 442 horsepower, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and standard 4Matic all-wheel drive, making it the most accessible way into the lineup.
- S 580e: This plug-in hybrid adds a 22.7-kWh battery pack, 503 hp, 553 lb-ft, and an estimated 48 miles of electric range, making it the best-value trim for shoppers who want strong efficiency and more power than the V8.
- S 580: The V8-powered step up adds 496 hp and 516 lb-ft for stronger performance while keeping the same luxury-first mission.
- AMG S 63 E Performance: The top performance model adds a twin-turbo V8, electric motor, dedicated gearbox, 791 hp, and 1,055 lb-ft for the quickest and most extreme S-Class experience.
What Mercedes-Benz S-Class do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class years with the most listings are 2023, 2022, and 2024.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 1,235 | 30.5% |
| 2022 | 1,131 | 30.9% |
| 2024 | 977 | 30.1% |
| 2016 | 951 | 30% |
| 2015 | 877 | 30% |
| 2021 | 746 | 31.1% |
Higher-volume years usually give you more shopping choice, which can make it easier to compare prices, equipment, and condition. They also tend to be the years most buyers gravitate toward when looking for a balance of availability and value.
What is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |

| 2019 | $39,070 | −12.79% |
| 2022 | $61,837 | −11.42% |
| 2023 | $76,872 | −11.25% |
| 2016 | $28,409 | −11.24% |
| 2021 | $57,558 | −10.87% |
| 2020 | $46,296 | −10.15% |
| 2015 | $24,424 | −9.04% |
| 2025 | $123,756 | −8.66% |
| 2014 | $20,954 | −8.29% |
| 2018 | $34,068 | −8.18% |
| 2017 | $38,118 | −5.31% |
| 2024 | $115,532 | −5.15% |
Most model years show clear year-over-year price declines, which can work in your favor if you’re shopping used. The biggest drops are concentrated in several older and mid-cycle years, while a few newer years are falling more slowly. That pattern suggests there are still meaningful savings to be found across much of the lineup.
The 2024, 2017, and 2018 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.

Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz S-Class now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −8.66% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −5.15%.
- Deal availability: The 2024 model has 30.1% good and great deals.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2023 model has the most listings at a current average price of $76,872. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class offers a richly appointed cabin, a smooth ride, and a strong sense of flagship luxury that make it feel special even as a used purchase.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: Four S-Class models are available for 2025, largely distinguished by their powertrains, including a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 442 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque and a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that increases power output to 496 hp and 516 lb-ft.
- Tech: All 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models have a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a native navigation system with augmented reality video overlays, voice recognition, and a Burmester surround-sound system.
- Safety: Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automated lane-change assist, evasive steering assistance, automatic reverse braking, a semi-automated parking system, and a surround-view camera system.
- Starting price: The entry-level 2025 Mercedes-Benz S 500 has a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $118,900.
If you're buying used today, the 2023 model year offers the best mix of value and availability. If you want the latest tech and features, it may be worth waiting for the next model year's inventory to build up.

Features are good not as much tech obviously as newer models but I'm good with that. Touchscreen feature i kinda miss , but I'll get over that. Great values for this car $37K..42k miles 1 owner ! Well taken care of..ride is so silky smooth , great space...will add for this size car trunk is rather small..used the space for rear seating..roomy vehicle..Love it !

This model is particularly a great S-Class version. It is so much better than the successor model S. The features are pretty much the same but having the tactile models and not a giant Ipad in the middle made the car so much more user friendly. I hope the next version reverts back to tactile buttons and not all of these haptics that just do not work. It is a card with an excellent ride and the sound system is top notch. I have never really had a smooth quieter ride than the S Class Mercedes.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out as a luxury full-size sedan that pairs the brand’s familiar emphasis on design and refinement with a new powertrain for 2023. It is described as being a few years into its latest generation, and Mercedes introduced a plug-in hybrid setup for this model year. That combination gives it a distinctive role for buyers who want a high-end sedan with the ability to travel far on electrons without fully committing to a battery-electric vehicle.
Its appeal is rooted in impressive technology, premium interior materials, and impressive electric range, all of which reinforce the S-Class’s upscale character. At the same time, it is not much more efficient than the non-hybrid powertrain, and it is very expensive. It also does not qualify for the federal tax rebate, which may matter to shoppers weighing the plug-in hybrid’s benefits against its cost.
