33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

| Model Year | Accident-Free % |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 96.4% |
| 2025 | 95.9% |
| 2024 | 91.3% |

| 2017 | 57% |
| 2016 | 56.1% |
| 2015 | 56.6% |
| 2014 | 58.8% |
Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.
Key things to evaluate:
- Safety package: Driver Assistance Package
- Infotainment: MBUX infotainment system with a 12.3-inch digital driver display and a 14.4-inch infotainment touchscreen
- Fuel efficiency: 41 miles of electric range and 22 mpg combined in hybrid mode
Which Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2026 Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers these trims:
- E 450 All-Terrain: The less-expensive wagon starts at $79,650 and adds a more rugged look plus technology that can assist with light off-road travel.
- AMG E 53 Hybrid: This performance upgrade starts at $94,700 and adds a height-adjustable Airmatic air suspension, premium materials, and AMG-focused performance hardware; it suits you best if you want the quickest, most distinctive wagon in the lineup.
What Mercedes-Benz E-Class do most buyers choose?
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class years with the most listings are 2018, 2015, and 2019.
| Model Year | Total Listings | Good + Great Deals % |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 1,309 | 36.4% |
| 2015 | 1,241 | 35.2% |
| 2019 | 1,238 | 36.9% |
| 2017 | 1,229 | 36.2% |
| 2022 | 1,166 | 35.4% |
| 2014 | 1,092 | 35.9% |
These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they give you more inventory to compare, which can make it easier to find the right combination of price, condition, and equipment. They also often sit in the sweet spot where the E-Class’s luxury features are still strong and used pricing is more approachable than on newer models.
What is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
| Model Year | Current Avg. Price | Year-Over-Year Change |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | $47,289 | −12.8% |
| 2021 | $36,105 | −12.76% |
| 2018 | $22,846 | −9.34% |
| 2015 | $14,134 | −8.65% |
| 2020 | $29,863 | −8.17% |
| 2017 | $17,453 | −8.13% |
| 2022 | $38,985 | −7.46% |
| 2024 | $53,505 | −7.16% |
| 2014 | $12,666 | −5.59% |
| 2025 | $59,140 | −4.23% |
| 2019 | $27,184 | −4.16% |
| 2016 | $15,130 | −2.6% |
Most model years in the table are down year over year, which creates better opportunities for used buyers. The steepest drops are concentrated in the newer and mid-cycle years, while the older examples show smaller declines. That pattern suggests you can often find stronger value in the used market without giving up the E-Class’s core luxury appeal.
The 2016, 2019, and 2025 model years have held their value best, with the smallest year-over-year price changes.
Is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
- 2026: 8/10
- 2024: 8/10
- 2022: 10/10
- 2021: 10/10
- 2020: 10/10
- 2018: 10/10
- 2014: 6/10
For an expensive luxury car, the Mercedes E-Class doesn’t come with much standard safety tech. Our test car had high-beam assist, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, an exit warning system, a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and a semi-autonomous self-parking system.
For the safest used buy, the 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022 models all post the highest confirmed score of 10/10.
Should I buy a used Mercedes-Benz E-Class now or wait for the next model?
Buy now if:
- Price trend: The 2025 model is at −4.23% versus a year ago, and the 2024 model is at −7.16%.
- Sweet-spot year: The 2018 model has the most listings at a current average price of $22,846. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class offers a spacious cabin, a refined ride, and a premium feel that make it especially appealing as a used luxury buy.
Consider waiting if:
- Powertrain/efficiency: The latest AMG E 53 Hybrid Wagon pairs a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 120-kilowatt electric motor and a 21.2-kilowatt-hour battery, and it returns 41 miles of electric range plus 22 mpg combined in hybrid mode.
- Tech: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with an augmented reality navigation system and a Burmester 4D surround-sound system with Dolby Atmos technology.
- Safety: The latest model adds an optional Driver Assistance Package with adaptive cruise control, active lane-keep assist, active steering assist, and automatic lane change capability.
- Starting price: The AMG E 53 Hybrid starts at $94,700.

Owners consistently praise features such as its powerful engines, smooth rides, and elegant interiors, indicating a preference for its refined driving experience and advanced technology. However, common criticisms include concerns about maintenance costs, the reliance on premium fuel, and the occasional feeling of underperformance in certain models. The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering a rare kind of luxury in a class of one, especially in Cabriolet form. Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little overall, which means it continues to lean on the E-Class’s established strengths rather than chasing a major redesign.
For 2022, the most significant change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants, and the lineup is left with turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. Automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, and a couple of paint colors are new. In the coupe and convertible body styles, rear USB charging ports are now standard equipment. That combination makes the E-Class appealing to buyers who want a polished luxury experience with a few useful updates, though the loss of the V8-powered AMG versions narrows the range of performance choices.
