- F Sport: Adds a sportier appearance and the ES 250 AWD F Sport test setup, making it the best-value choice for shoppers who want a more distinctive look and a richer feature mix.
- Luxury: Adds a more upscale equipment set for buyers who want extra comfort and a more premium feel.
- Ultra Luxury: Adds the most lavish equipment and suits buyers who want the most comfort-focused ES experience.
What Lexus ES do most buyers choose?

Why it stands out
The 2017 Lexus ES stands out as a comfort-first luxury sedan that prioritizes refinement over flash. It is based on the same platform as the Toyota Avalon and Camry from this era, and Lexus gave it increased structural rigidity, a wider stance, and an overall increase in length of almost three inches. The wheelbase grew by two inches, which helped create additional rear-seat legroom, while the seating position was moved lower and further back. Lexus also leaned into a more expressive design with a large spindle grille, sharp body creases, and a coupe-like roofline.
Under the hood, the 2017 Lexus ES offered two distinct personalities. The ES 350 used a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 with 302 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. The ES 300h hybrid combined a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a CVT for a combined 215 hp. Standard equipment was generous, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated power front seats, LED headlights, a power moonroof, and a full suite of safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assist, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, traffic-sign recognition, and high-beam assist.
What makes this ES appealing is how thoroughly it delivers on the traditional Lexus formula: a quiet, pampering ride, a well-finished cabin, and strong everyday comfort. The available trims and options added meaningful luxury touches such as a Mark Levinson stereo, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof, surround-view cameras, a power rear sunshade, and triple-beam LED headlights. At the same time, it is not the right choice for buyers seeking excitement, since its character is more relaxed than sporty. Early models also used an infotainment system that reviewers found complex and awkward to use, though Lexus later improved the interior experience with a major refresh for 2022.
