How much does the Ford Mustang cost in today's market?

Used Ford Mustang prices span a wide range depending on model year. Here's what the market looks like right now:

The Ford Mustang's current nationwide average price is $28,028, and its lowest point over the past year was $25,614. Recently, prices have come down for the 2024 and 2025 models, making now a good time to shop recent model years.

Is the Ford Mustang a good car?

Yes — the Ford Mustang is a strong choice if you want a used sports car with broad appeal and a long track record of enthusiast satisfaction. The all-generations owner rating is 4.6/5 across every model year in the data.

Owners consistently praise the Mustang for its powerful performance, fun driving experience, and iconic styling. Across the years, the car also stands out for its wide range of engine choices and the excitement that comes with its V8 models.

Expert reviews rate the 2018 and 2021 models among the highest across all years.

The main trade-offs that show up in recent expert reviews are the cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and noisy cabin character.

27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Are Ford Mustang models reliable?

Owners consistently praise the Mustang for its performance, styling, and driving enjoyment, and expert reviews reinforce its strong character and broad appeal. Across the model years, it remains a car that delivers excitement and a memorable ownership experience.

• Owners rate the Ford Mustang between 4.4 and 5 out of 5 stars across all model years in the data.

For used buyers, long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-maintained example and checking service history carefully, especially on older model years.

What should I look for when buying a used Ford Mustang?

Across all model years, at 73.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

Older model years carry meaningfully higher accident rates, so always verify the vehicle history report on pre-2022 models.

Key things to evaluate:

• Safety package: frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic high beams
• Infotainment: a large 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen with the Sync 4 infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa integration
• Fuel efficiency: 22 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined in the EcoBoost; 15/24 mpg city/highway and 18 mpg combined in the GT automatic

Which Ford Mustang trim should I buy?

The 2024 Ford Mustang offers these trims:

• EcoBoost: the entry point with the 315-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter engine, a 10-speed automatic, and the broadest value appeal for shoppers who want Mustang style and performance at the lowest starting price.
• EcoBoost High Performance Package: adds a Torsen limited-slip differential, leather steering wheel, stickier and larger tires, and upgraded Brembo brake calipers for sharper handling and stronger braking.
• GT: the best-value V8 choice, with the 5.0-liter engine, six-speed manual, and the more complete muscle-car character many buyers want.
• GT Premium: adds the GT Convertible option in Premium trim and suits buyers who want the V8 experience with more upscale equipment.
• Dark Horse: the top performance trim with 500 hp and additional performance enhancements for buyers who want the most serious factory Mustang.

What Ford Mustang do most buyers choose?

The Ford Mustang years with the most listings are 2025, 2024, and 2023.

These higher-volume years tend to be popular because they offer a strong mix of newer features, broad availability, and plenty of shopping choice. When more listings are on the market, you also get a better chance of finding the right color, trim, and price.

What is the Ford Mustang's resale value?

Most Mustang model years in the table are down year over year, which is good news if you're shopping used and want to benefit from softer pricing. A few years are rising, though, so the market is still rewarding certain versions with stronger demand. The 2018 model year is holding steady, with prices close to flat year-over-year. The 2023, 2014, and 2022 model years have held their value best, with prices flat to rising year-over-year.
