How much does the 2025 Volvo XC90 cost?

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 a good car?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 earns an 8.33/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

It builds on the XC90’s role as Volvo’s flagship SUV with updated styling, materials, and feature offerings, plus mechanical tweaks aimed at improving ride comfort and handling. That makes it a strong fit if you want a midsize three-row SUV that emphasizes style, substance, and a polished driving feel.

The main trade-offs are that semi-autonomous driving is not available and the top-tier sound system still costs extra even on the top trim. Even so, the XC90’s combination of style, safety, and user-friendly technology keeps it appealing for shoppers who value a refined family SUV.

34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 reliable?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is presented as a polished, well-developed flagship SUV with a strong safety reputation and a focus on functional rather than flashy execution. Its standard advanced driver-assistance systems operated smoothly during testing, and the vehicle’s mechanical updates are aimed at improving ride comfort and stability.

The performance setup also points to a mature, user-friendly ownership experience: the B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains are described as the more hassle-free options, while the plug-in hybrid T8 adds electric capability for buyers willing to manage charging. The XC90’s standard suspension uses Frequency Selective Damping technology, which is designed to adapt mechanically to road conditions for improved comfort and stability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a configuration that doesn’t match your charging habits or comfort expectations, especially if you opt for the plug-in hybrid without regular charging access.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the specific listing matches the trim, seating layout, and powertrain you want. A pre-purchase inspection is especially useful on a three-row luxury SUV like this, since comfort features, electronics, and suspension equipment can vary meaningfully by configuration. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and whether the vehicle’s equipment level matches the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Core, Plus, and Ultra are the available trims, and the biggest gaps show up in comfort and convenience equipment. The crystal shift knob is standard at the Plus and Ultra levels, while the Ultra trim adds the head-up display and the upgraded audio options.
• Powertrain: The XC90 offers B5, B6, and T8 powertrains. The B5 is a mild-hybrid four-cylinder with 247 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, the B6 adds turbo- and e-supercharging for 295 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and the T8 plug-in hybrid combines a four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and battery for 455 horsepower, 523 lb-ft of torque, and up to 33 miles of pure-electric range.
• Safety package: Standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection. The vehicle does not offer a hands-free highway-driving system.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is larger, sharper, and uses a new user interface with a fixed menu bar and contextual bar. Apple CarPlay is standard and works wirelessly or via USB-C cable, and the Ultra trim adds a head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 uses mild-hybrid support for improved fuel economy, and the T8 plug-in hybrid offers up to 33 miles of pure-electric range and an EPA-rated max of 27 mpg.

Which 2025 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it makes the XC90’s core strengths accessible with the B5 powertrain and standard AWD. It’s the trim to consider if you want the XC90 experience at the lowest starting price, but you’ll miss some of the richer cabin touches and upgraded convenience features found higher up.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful upscale touches without jumping all the way to the top. The crystal shift knob is standard here, and it’s the trim where the available audio upgrade becomes more attainable.
• Ultra: This is the trim to choose if you want the most complete XC90 experience, including the head-up display and the top-end audio setup. It suits you best if you want the most luxury and tech content and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package includes standard advanced driver-assistance systems across the lineup, but there is no hands-free highway-driving system on any trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,707 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $51,270, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $51,270 sits slightly below last year's $56,323.

That decline suggests the XC90 is currently in a softer pricing environment, which can help you buy more confidently today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim selection rather than just model-year desirability. If you keep the vehicle clean, well maintained, and properly equipped, you’ll be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is too new to have been crash-tested by independent safety organizations, but its predecessors as well as the automaker itself have established quite the reputation.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard advanced driver-assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, blind-spot information system, intersection auto brake, and large animal detection. Those features worked smoothly during testing and support the XC90’s cautious, functional approach to safety.

A key shortcoming is that it does not offer a hands-free highway-driving system, even though some rival midsize three-row SUVs do. That makes the XC90 feel more conservative than cutting-edge in this area, even if its overall safety reputation remains strong.

Should I buy a 2025 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.97% compared with last year.
• The 2025 update brings refreshed styling, materials, feature offerings, and ride-and-handling tweaks.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,956, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $51,270 average.
• It remains appealing for its beautiful styling and plug-in hybrid availability.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished XC90 with the latest refresh, the 2025 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up the newest updates, the 2024 is the smarter value play.
