How much does the 2025 Toyota Prius cost?

Prices have softened 7.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,424 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius a good car?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns a 6.7/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You get a stylish hybrid with easy-to-use technology and strong safety ratings, and Toyota’s new Nightshade trim gives the lineup a more distinctive look. The trade-offs are clear, though: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the real-world fuel economy in testing fell short of expectations. For you, that means the Prius makes the most sense if you value efficiency, design, and safety more than interior room.

44.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s meaningful value in the market if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius reliable?

The 2025 Toyota Prius leans on Toyota’s long-running hybrid reputation, and the expert evaluation describes it as a car that remains focused on fuel economy while pairing that with a lower center of gravity and responsive handling characteristics. The hybrid setup is described as sprightly, and the car is presented as enjoyable, if not always thrilling, to drive.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and the expert evaluation says it behaved as expected overall. The system includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and Proactive Driving Assist. The evaluation also notes that Proactive Driving Assist was more agreeable in this car than in some other Toyotas.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Prius’s efficiency-first design comes with compromises in space and everyday practicality, so you should make sure the car still fits your needs over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with optional equipment or higher mileage. Focus on cabin condition, rear-seat usability, cargo space, and whether the car’s features match how you plan to use it day to day.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited trim levels. The base LE gets the standard 8-inch touchscreen, while the Limited gets the larger 12.3-inch display. The Nightshade Edition adds black 19-inch wheels, black exterior trim, and an exclusive Karashi paint color, while the Limited is the trim that gets the larger screen standard.
• Powertrain: The hybrid powertrain uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gas engine and an 83-kilowatt electric motor for 194 horsepower. AWD adds a second 30-kW rear electric motor and raises output to 196 hp.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and Proactive Driving Assist. Front and rear parking sensors and automatic low-speed braking are also helpful, while a surround-view camera is available on the Limited.
• Infotainment: Every Prius gets Toyota Audio Multimedia with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The standard screen is 8 inches on LE, XLE, and Nightshade Edition, while the Limited gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen. The larger screen is optional on XLE and Nightshade, and over-the-air-style connected features depend on subscription services.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert test car averaged 39.2 mpg in real-world driving, while the EPA estimate cited in the evaluation is 52 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2025 Toyota Prius trim should I buy?

The 2025 Toyota Prius is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, XLE, Nightshade Edition, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the most affordable path into the Prius lineup and gives you the standard 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite. It makes the most sense if you want the Prius experience without paying for extras you may not need.
• XLE: This trim adds a step up in comfort and is the better choice if you want a more upscale daily driver without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It also can be paired with the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen if you want a more premium-feeling cabin.
• Nightshade Edition: This is the best-value pick if you want the Prius to look more distinctive. It adds blacked-out styling, black 19-inch wheels, and the exclusive Karashi paint color, while keeping the same core hybrid and safety hardware.
• Limited: This is the trim to buy if you want the most complete Prius. It gets the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen standard and is the trim tied to the available surround-view camera system, making it the best fit if you want the most convenience and visibility aids.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Toyota Prius?

It’s a buyer-friendly market for the 2025 Prius, with decent deal availability and a price trend that has moved in your favor.

• Deal availability: 44.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,424 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.83% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,869, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Toyota Prius's resale value?

The current average of $28,320 sits slightly below last year's $30,725.

That price movement suggests the Prius has softened enough to help you buy more confidently today. If you plan to sell later, the current market gives you a clearer benchmark, but it also means you should expect some depreciation pressure if prices continue to ease. For a future seller, the best protection is buying well now and keeping the car in strong condition.

Is the 2025 Toyota Prius safe?

The 2025 Toyota Prius earns a coveted Top Safety Pick+ nod from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it earns five-star ratings in all crashworthiness assessments, as well as a four-star rating for rollover resistance from NHTSA.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and Proactive Driving Assist. Front and rear parking sensors and automatic low-speed braking are also helpful, and a surround-view camera is available on the Limited.

The main caveat is that lane-centering assist can become somewhat argumentative on curving roads and can briefly lose its bearings near freeway ramps.

Should I buy a 2025 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 44.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.83% compared with last year.
• The 2025 adds a new Nightshade trim level with a blacked-out look and keeps safety ratings strong.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $29,157, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $28,320 average.
• It blends style, practicality, and affordability for everyday use.

The bottom line: The 2025 is the better pick if you want the newer model-year pricing advantage and the updated Nightshade appearance. If you’re shopping strictly for value, the 2024 can still make sense, but the 2025 is the stronger starting point for most used buyers.
