The Honda CR-V is one of the old guard of the compact crossover segment, fresh off a redesign for 2023. Rivals include the Toyota RAV4, the Nissan Rogue, the Hyundai Tucson, and the Mazda CX-5 and CX-50. ## What’s New for the 2024 Honda CR-V The Honda CR-V was fully redesigned for the 2023 model year, and this year, it carries over largely unchanged. The CR-V is a stylish and functional small crossover with a bold stature and a ton of technology and safety features. The three trim levels, LX, EX, and EX-L, carry over for 2024. ## Design Despite the 2024 CR-V’s bold styling, which takes cues from Honda’s larger vehicles like the Passport and Pilot SUVs and Ridgeline pickup truck, it’s undeniably one of the more refined vehicles in the segment. The CR-V has always been a master in maximizing space, and that hasn’t changed, even though it still looks relatively small and sprightly from the outside. Sharp lighting, front and back, adds an upscale look. ## Powertrain The 2024 Honda CR-V gets just one powertrain across the lineup: a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. This powertrain makes 190 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to get the CR-V moving, even though the CVT protests loudly at times. Fuel economy is great for the segment, with FWD models EPA-rated for 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway and AWD models rated for 27/32 mpg city/highway. The suspension and steering are well-tuned for smoothness and stability. ## Interior The new CR-V is more spacious than ever, though the low positioning of the driver’s seat is a little deceptive, especially for shoppers who are used to riding high in a crossover. The front seats are comfortable and come heated in EX and EX-L trims, though ventilated front and heated rear seats are nowhere to be found on the options list. The rear seats do recline, though, making even the rear row comfortable for taller occupants. Cloth upholstery comes standard, and leather upholstery is available. The cabin offers tons of small-item storage to keep the CR-V feeling neat, clean, and airy. There’s an impressive 39.3 cubic feet of storage beneath the rear liftgate, which opens up to a maximum of 76.5 cubic feet. ## Technology The 2024 CR-V pairs a 7-inch digital instrument display with a touchscreen-based infotainment system. The latter appears on a 7-inch display in the base LX and EX trims and a 9-inch display in the EX-L trim and up. Physical audio controls are available, too. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and get upgraded to wireless versions in the EX-L model alongside wireless charging. ## Safety Standard safety features include the Honda Sensing package, with forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Other standard features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a seatbelt reminder system, a rear-seat reminder system, a driver-alertness monitoring system, and a traffic-sign recognition system. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2023 CR-V a Top Safety Pick+ rating, with top “Good” scores in four crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn’t tested the Honda CR-V since it was redesigned in 2023. ## Pricing As of this writing, Honda lists pricing for the 2024 CR-V starting at $29,500 for the base LX 2WD model, plus a destination charge of $1,295. For comparison purposes, hybrid models start at an MSRP of $33,350 for the CR-V Sport 2WD trim. The 2024 CR-V started arriving at Honda dealerships in summer of 2023.
