Used 2024 Ford Ranger for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2024 Ford Ranger cost?

Prices have softened 7.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,235 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2024 Ford Ranger a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Ford Ranger earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.

Ford positions this Ranger as a broader, more capable midsize pickup, and the test-drive verdict backs that up with stronger powertrain choice and a more refined road feel. It stands out for its handling and quiet cabin, which make it easier to live with as a daily driver than a bare-bones work truck.

The trade-offs are clear: the interior materials feel cheap, and the touchscreen response is sluggish. Advanced safety features are also not standard, so you should expect to shop trims carefully if you want more equipment.

With 36.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have room to be selective while still finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2024 Ford Ranger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Ranger’s overall package points to solid day-to-day dependability, especially if you value a truck that balances capability with comfort. The performance notes describe the standard turbo four-cylinder and available V6 options as smooth and sufficient, and the truck is described as quiet and comfortable on pavement.

Ford also emphasizes useful ownership-friendly hardware and equipment, including a 10-speed automatic transmission and regular-grade fuel compatibility for the main engines. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is that a truck with more capability and more tech can also bring more complexity, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Ford Ranger?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks that have been used for towing, off-roading, or heavy commuting. Focus on cabin condition, touchscreen behavior, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the XL to higher trims that add more comfort and convenience, and the base XL does not come with any driver assists. The XLT and above bring more standard safety equipment, while the Lariat adds features like a wider instrument panel, push-button start, and more advanced parking and trailer-assist tech.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder makes 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet, and a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 is available with 315 horsepower and 400 pound-feet. The Raptor uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 with 405 horsepower and 430 pound-feet.
• Safety package: The XLT and above trims have standard forward and reverse emergency braking, auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, front cross-traffic braking, and evasive steering assist. Adaptive cruise control is optional on the XLT and standard on Lariat and Raptor.
• Infotainment: A 10-inch portrait touchscreen is standard on the XL, while a 12-inch screen comes on all other trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, but the menus are slow to load and BlueCruise handsfree driving assist is not available.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder with 4WD is rated at 20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, while the V6 is rated at 19/23/20.

Which 2024 Ford Ranger trim should I buy?

The 2024 Ford Ranger is offered in 4 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, Raptor.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the entry point, but it’s the most stripped-down version and does not include driver assists. It makes sense only if you want the lowest starting price and plan to add very little beyond the basics.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the core safety equipment and keeps the Ranger’s useful powertrain and tech foundation intact. If you want a balanced used buy, this is the trim to target first.
• Lariat: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale daily-driver feel, with more advanced convenience and tech features, including the wider instrument panel and parking/trailer-assist functions.
• Raptor: This is the choice if you want the most serious off-road character and the strongest performance hardware in the lineup, but it’s the least practical pick for buyers who mainly want value.

The safety package starts on the XLT, so if you want the best mix of equipment and value, that’s the trim to focus on first.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Ford Ranger?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,235 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 93.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,298, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Ford Ranger's resale value?

The current average of $38,298 sits slightly below last year's $41,383.

That softer pricing suggests the Ranger has already moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its cycle, which can help future resale if you buy at the right price. If you pay close to the low end of the range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation later.

The truck’s broad appeal, stronger powertrain lineup, and solid user satisfaction should help support demand when you eventually sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Ford Ranger safe?

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The base XL trim does not come with any driver assists, but the XLT and above trims have standard forward and reverse emergency braking, auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage, front cross-traffic braking, and evasive steering assist. Adaptive cruise control is optional on the XLT and standard on Lariat and Raptor.

That means safety equipment is decent once you move up the lineup, but you should not assume every used Ranger has the same protection level. If safety matters most, verify the trim and equipment list carefully before you buy.

Should I buy a 2024 Ford Ranger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 Ranger brings more power, tech, refinement, space, and choice, including new V6 engines and a Raptor trim.

The bottom line: If you want the Ranger with the broader lineup and stronger all-around appeal, the 2024 is the better target. If you’re mainly focused on minimizing purchase price, a different year may be worth considering, but the 2024 gives you the more complete package.
