Is the 2023 Volvo S60 a good car?

The 2023 Volvo S60 stands out as a compact luxury sedan that leans hard into Volvo’s strengths: safety, comfort, and Scandinavian design. It rides on the brand’s SPA platform and carries over the refined design language and advanced safety systems associated with Volvo’s larger flagship sedan, but in a smaller, sleeker package. It also benefits from being the first Volvo model assembled in North America, which adds another layer of distinction to the car’s story.

For 2023, the S60’s lineup was streamlined and updated. The infotainment system switched to Volvo’s latest Google-based operating system, and the powertrain range was reduced to a B5 turbocharged four-cylinder and an updated T8 Recharge. Inside, the S60 remained appealing for its high-quality materials, superb build quality, panoramic moonroof, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and 9-inch touchscreen.

The S60’s appeal is reinforced by its standard safety equipment and comfortable cabin. Every S60 came with Volvo’s City Safety collision avoidance system, and the model earned IIHS Top Safety Pick+ recognition in both 2021 and 2022. Even so, it remains a compelling choice for shoppers who want a stylish sedan with strong safety credentials and a distinctly different feel from the usual luxury-car alternatives.

With 34.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful share of the market to shop from if you want value.

For long-term ownership, you should pay close attention to maintenance history and how the car has been used, since a premium sedan with advanced technology can become expensive if prior care was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo S60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should confirm the car’s history report first, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, infotainment, and safety systems. Focus on overall condition, service records, and signs of prior bodywork so you can separate a clean example from one that may need expensive catch-up maintenance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo S60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 691 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 89.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,390, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo S60's resale value?

The current average of $27,392 sits slightly below last year's $31,807.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently today. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale value will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and maintenance history. A well-kept example should hold up better than one with visible wear or incomplete records.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.88% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2023 is a strong choice if you want the updated infotainment, streamlined lineup, and a market that currently favors shoppers more than sellers. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 gives you a good balance of modern features and current market value.
