Used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale nearSeattle, WA

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 8.09% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,190 listings available, which gives you a healthy pool of options to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It stands out as Volkswagen’s most popular model, and it makes a strong case for itself as a crossover SUV that feels a bit more upscale than many rivals. You also get more interior room than many competitors, plus one of the few third-row seats in the segment, which makes it especially useful if you want extra passenger flexibility in a compact-SUV footprint.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, the ergonomic design is poor, and the technology can be unintuitive. Even so, the Tiguan’s great handling and stylish design help it feel more rewarding than many rivals in everyday driving.

The market looks supportive, with 40.8% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Tiguan’s appeal leans on its roomy cabin, upscale feel, and practical utility, and the expert review also describes it as a good value for what you get. Volkswagen’s Carefree Coverage adds two years of scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, and a four-year/50,000-mile warranty, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

The powertrain is described as rewarding once you acclimate to its quirks, though the transmission can stumble and the engine can feel short on passing power. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the same tech and drivetrain frustrations that show up in testing may continue to shape daily ownership.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a thorough inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, control usability, and whether the vehicle’s features work the way you expect, since the Tiguan’s tech and ergonomics can be a bigger part of ownership satisfaction than raw performance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line each bring different looks and equipment, and the base trim has a smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen. The higher trims add more upscale cabin materials, larger displays, and more premium features, while the SEL R-Line stands out for its sporty appearance and 20-inch wheels.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available; the AWD system adds Onroad, Snow, Offroad, and Custom Offroad settings.
• Safety package: Front Assist and Side Assist are standard, and Front Assist includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking. IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models, adding adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
• Infotainment: The base S trim uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and a premium Fender sound system are available on the top trim, but the interface can be cumbersome.
• Fuel efficiency: The SEL R-Line should average 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Tiguan’s core roominess and standard safety features at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the Tiguan’s practical packaging and are willing to live with the smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen and fewer upscale touches.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability and a more polished feel without jumping all the way to the top-spec model. If you want a balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
• SE R-Line Black: This trim leans into a sportier appearance and gives you a more distinctive look than the lower trims. It suits you if style matters and you want something that feels a bit more special without going straight to the flagship.
• SEL R-Line: This is the most upscale and feature-rich version, with the larger digital display, premium cabin touches, and the most complete equipment list. It’s the one to choose if you want the Tiguan at its most polished and don’t mind paying more for it.

IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a buyer-friendly moment if you’re shopping carefully.

• Deal availability: 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,190 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,809, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $21,809 sits slightly below last year's $23,729.

That softer pricing suggests the Tiguan has become more attractive to used buyers, which can help keep demand steady for sellers who price competitively. Its roomy cabin, upscale feel, and strong safety story should continue to support interest, especially among shoppers who want extra practicality without moving to a larger SUV.

If the market keeps rewarding value and utility, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less versatile rivals. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2023 Tiguan earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS for the 2022 calendar year, though that rating does not apply for the 2023 calendar year. NHTSA testing is incomplete, and NHTSA also says the driver’s door unlatched and opened during the side-impact test.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

All Tiguans have standard Front Assist and Side Assist. Front Assist includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, while Side Assist adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Volkswagen also includes an Automatic Post Collision Braking System, and IQ.Drive adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.

That safety tech is a major strength, but the incomplete crash-test picture and the side-impact door concern are worth keeping in mind when you shop used examples.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 40.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a roomy cabin, a third-row seat, upscale looks, and strong safety tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,679, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $21,809 average.
• It is a light refresh that keeps the formula focused on refinement and new safety technology.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $23,956, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $21,809 average.
• It adds standard lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control for the first time.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, room, and safety tech, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value play; if you want more standard driver-assistance equipment and can spend more, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
