Used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan for Sale near Alabama

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan cost?

Prices have softened 7.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,281 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy range of choices.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

It stands out because it feels larger inside than many rivals and is one of only two vehicles in its segment to offer a third-row seat. It also brings a more upscale appearance than many primary competitors, so it can feel more polished than its price and size might suggest.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the ergonomic design and technology can be frustrating to live with. If you want style, space, and a refined look more than quick acceleration or simple controls, this is a strong fit.

The market shows 34.1% good or great deals, which points to decent shopping opportunities.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Tiguan’s appeal comes from its roomy cabin, upscale feel, and solid construction. It also benefits from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder setup with an eight-speed automatic, plus available all-wheel drive for added traction.

Its dependability story is helped by the fact that Volkswagen includes two years of scheduled maintenance, roadside assistance, and a four-year/50,000-mile warranty. That said, the powertrain can feel uneven at times, and the touch-heavy controls and voice-recognition quirks may be annoying over long ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is living with a vehicle that feels well built but can be irritating if you value smooth power delivery and easy-to-use tech.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the vehicle history report carefully and prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on how the controls work in real use, since the Tiguan’s interface can be distracting, and make sure the powertrain feels smooth enough for your driving style.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line each bring different styling and equipment levels. Base-trim choices are more limited, and some desirable features are reserved for higher trims.
• Powertrain: You get a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Motion all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Front Assist and Side Assist are standard, and IQ.Drive adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models.
• Infotainment: The base S trim uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and Car-Net connected services are included on the top trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The SEL R-Line should average 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, but it comes with the smallest touchscreen and the fewest features, so it makes sense mainly if you want the lowest starting price.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without jumping all the way to the top-spec pricing.
• SE R-Line Black: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a more distinctive appearance without going to the highest trim.
• SEL R-Line: This is the most upscale choice, with the larger 10.25-inch digital display, standard AWD, adaptive front lighting, and the most premium cabin presentation.

IQ.Drive is optional on base models and standard on other models, so that safety-package advantage is worth factoring into your trim decision.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,281 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,983, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan's resale value?

The current average of $21,983 sits slightly below last year's $23,840.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than on broad market momentum alone.

Because the Tiguan has strong buyer appeal for space, style, and a more upscale feel, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan safe?

The 2023 Tiguan earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS for the 2022 calendar year, though that rating does not apply for the 2023 calendar year.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

All Tiguans have standard Front Assist and Side Assist. Front Assist includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, while Side Assist adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Volkswagen also includes an Automatic Post Collision Braking System.

IQ.Drive adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, active blind-spot monitoring, Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. On base models, IQ.Drive is optional, while it is standard on other models.

One caveat is that NHTSA testing is incomplete, and the driver’s door unlatched and opened during the side-impact test, which raises a safety concern.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a more upscale look with a larger-than-expected cabin and a third-row seat.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $19,895, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $21,983 average.
• It emphasizes standard advanced safety features and strong value.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $24,208, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $21,983 average.
• It makes more desirable safety technology standard for the first time.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, space, and upscale feel, the 2023 is the sweet spot. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the value play; if you want newer standard safety tech, the 2024 is worth the extra money.
