How much does the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 cost?

Prices have softened 7.71% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,832 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, smooth ride, quiet operation, good acceleration, and handling. For shoppers who want a mainstream electric SUV with a comfortable driving experience and strong everyday usability, that combination is compelling.

The main trade-offs are its potentially polarizing design and unintuitive technology. In practical terms, that means you may like it most if you want comfort, value, and a well-rounded EV rather than the most intuitive interface in the segment.

With a broad price spread and a mix of standard tech and driver aids, it fits shoppers who want an affordable EV that still feels well equipped. The market also shows 42.1% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the value case.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a reliable-feeling ownership experience, with owners describing the ID.4 as smooth, quiet, and good for daily use over time. The review summary also highlights positive remarks about build quality and a driving experience you can count on.

The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the ID.4 as refined and comfortable, with a familiar EV driving feel that should be easy to live with. Volkswagen also includes an eight-year, 100,000-mile battery warranty, which helps reduce long-term ownership risk for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen ID.4?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at different price points. Focus on overall condition, software behavior, charging performance, and whether the cabin tech works the way you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base ID.4 Standard is the affordability play, while higher trims add more equipment and convenience. The base model still feels close to the higher trims in overall quality, but you should check for feature gaps if you want a more upscale setup.
• Powertrain: You can shop single-motor rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive versions. The single-motor setup makes 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, while AWD raises output to 295 hp and 339 lb-ft.
• Safety package: Travel Assist 2.0 is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and automated lane centering. You also get forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear park distance control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, Emergency Assist 3.0, Park Assist Plus, an automated lane-change feature, and a 360-degree camera system.
• Infotainment: A 12.0-inch touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the ID.Cockpit digital instrument cluster, and software updates aimed at better responsiveness.
• Range & charging: VW estimates 209 miles of range for 62-kWh models and up to 275 miles for 82-kWh rear-drive versions. DC fast charging can reach 10% to 80% in 30 minutes on 82-kWh models, while the 62-kWh battery charges at 140 kW. The onboard 11 kW charger can replenish the smaller battery in six hours and 15 minutes.
• Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, confirm typical charging behavior, and make sure the car has been used in a way that matches your needs. If you plan to rely mostly on home charging, verify that the charging setup works properly; if you expect frequent DC fast charging, look for signs of heavy use and review how much battery warranty coverage remains.

Which 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in 5 trim levels: ID.4 Standard, ID.4 S, ID.4 Pro, ID.4 Pro S, ID.4 Pro S Plus.

Here's the short version:

• ID.4 Standard: This is the best-value starting point if you want the lowest entry price and still want the core ID.4 experience. It keeps the comfortable cabin, standard advanced safety features, and the 12.0-inch touchscreen, so you’re not giving up the essentials.
• ID.4 S: This trim is the next step up if you want a little more equipment while staying close to the value end of the lineup. It makes sense if you want more content than the base model without jumping too far in price.
• ID.4 Pro: This is the trim to consider if you want the larger 82-kWh battery and the stronger range estimate. It’s the sweet spot for shoppers who want more flexibility without going all the way to the top trims.
• ID.4 Pro S: This is the better choice if you want a more upscale feel and more available equipment while keeping the stronger battery setup. It suits buyers who want a more polished daily driver.
• ID.4 Pro S Plus: This is the top trim and the one for you if you want the most equipment and don’t mind paying for it. It’s the least value-focused choice, but it delivers the fullest ID.4 experience.

The safety package is a strong point across the lineup, with Travel Assist 2.0 and the broader driver-assistance suite helping the ID.4 feel well equipped even in lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen ID.4?

This is a buyer-friendly market for the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4, with solid deal availability and a meaningful price drop versus last year.

• Deal availability: 42.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,832 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.71% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,906, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4's resale value?

The current average of $21,906 sits slightly below last year's $23,736.

That price movement suggests the ID.4 has become more accessible in the used market, which can help you buy at a better entry point today. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, trim, and battery health rather than just model-year age.

Because the year-over-year change is negative, the market is signaling softer pricing rather than rapid appreciation. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect your exit value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 safe?

The 2023 ID.4 earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The ID.4 comes with a strong standard driver-assistance package that includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear park distance control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, Travel Assist 2.0 with adaptive cruise control and automated lane centering, Emergency Assist 3.0, Park Assist Plus, an automated lane-change feature, and a 360-degree camera system.

A notable strength is that these features are broadly standard, which helps the ID.4 feel well equipped even before you move up the trim ladder. The main caveat is the four-star rollover result from NHTSA, which is worth keeping in mind if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 42.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.71% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new base model, a smaller battery option, revised styling, and more standard tech and driver aids.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $22,907, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $21,906 average.
• It brings a more powerful rear-drive motor and improved infotainment.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the better pick if you want the stronger value proposition and a wider spread of affordable listings. If you’re willing to pay more for improved power and tech, the 2024 is the better upgrade path.
