How much does the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid cost?

Prices have softened 2.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 845 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid earns a 5/5 user rating and a 5.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its great mileage, comfortable ride, and stylish design. The overview also points to a quiet cabin and standard advanced safety features, which fit well if you want a family-focused three-row SUV. On the trade-off side, the expert review calls out fairly pedestrian performance and a cramped third row.

The model’s appeal is strongest if you want a practical midsize hybrid SUV with family-friendly priorities rather than excitement. Good and great deals account for 37.3% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to great mileage, a comfortable ride, and a generally positive ownership experience, while also noting that the engine can be a bit loud from a stop before settling down. The expert review describes it as a vehicle for people who want a reliable and safe family-sized SUV, and it emphasizes that the cabin stays remarkably quiet on the highway. Toyota also includes standard Safety Connect, which adds emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, collision assistance, and a vehicle locator.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the hybrid’s real-world efficiency and driving refinement meet your expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free status does not tell you everything about prior use or maintenance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, since the expert review notes cheap-feeling interior materials and some flimsy trim details. It also makes sense to focus on how the third row, ride quality, and hybrid system feel in real-world driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LE trim level is front-wheel drive, while XLE, Bronze Edition, Limited, and Platinum are also offered, with all-wheel drive optional across the board. The base trim starts with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, while Limited and Platinum add a larger display and more upscale equipment, so you should pay close attention to feature gaps if you’re comparing lower trims.
• Powertrain: The hybrid system pairs a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with two electric motor-generators, and AWD versions add a third electric assist motor for the rear wheels. Toyota says it makes 243 combined horsepower, but the review notes that passing power is limited and the powertrain is tuned more for efficiency than excitement.
• Safety package: Every Highlander Hybrid gets Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ (TSS 2.5+), which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road sign assist. Hybrids also include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Platinum add front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking and Platinum adds a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Lower trims use an 8.0-inch touchscreen, while Bronze Edition, Limited, and Platinum get a 12.3-inch display. The system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, dual-device Bluetooth pairing, HD Radio, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the EPA-rated combined figure for the test vehicle was 35 mpg, though the real-world result fell short of that.

Which 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is offered in 5 trim levels: LE, XLE, Bronze Edition, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, blind-spot monitoring, and the 8.0-inch touchscreen. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the extra comfort and tech upgrades.
• XLE: This is the trim to consider if you want a better-balanced mix of equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder. It adds more content than the LE while staying focused on everyday family use, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• Bronze Edition: This trim is for you if you want a more distinctive look and the larger 12.3-inch infotainment display. It sits above the XLE and adds more visual flair and tech, but it’s more about style and equipment than a major mechanical upgrade.
• Limited: This is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale feel, because it adds the larger touchscreen and more premium features, plus front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking. It also gains power folding exterior mirrors and is a strong choice if you want more convenience without going all the way to the top trim.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped version, including the surround-view camera and the most upscale presentation. It’s the trim for buyers who want maximum convenience and the most advanced feature set.

Limited and Platinum trims also gain front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking, and Platinum adds a standard surround-view camera.

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 845 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,003, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $38,985 sits slightly below last year's $39,928.

That tells you the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. The current price trend suggests the model is holding value reasonably well rather than dropping sharply, which is a good sign for long-term ownership. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should be in a decent position when it’s time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid safe?

The 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid earns excellent overall crash-test ratings from both the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Highlander Hybrid comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ (TSS 2.5+), which includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and road sign assist. Hybrids also include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, while Limited and Platinum add front and rear parking sensors with automatic braking and Platinum adds a surround-view camera.

The expert review notes that the driver-assistance system can get confused when lanes converge or widen, and it can struggle on roads with worn markings or tricky turn lanes. Even so, it works especially well in moderate to heavy freeway traffic.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Highlander Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.36% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings fresh technology, including a new 12.3-inch digital display on upper trims and wireless smartphone integration.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,361, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $38,985 average.
• It emphasizes efficiency and value.

The bottom line: If you want the newer tech, stronger market selection, and the current-year safety and ownership appeal, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core hybrid strengths.
