How much does the 2023 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 492 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 a good car?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is a strong fit if you want a focused sports coupe that prioritizes driving enjoyment over everyday practicality. Owners rate it 3.9/5, and experts give it 7.7/10 overall.

The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, nimble handling, and affordability. The car also earns credit for its straightforward controls and enthusiast-friendly character, which makes it feel engaging rather than overly filtered.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the infotainment system is dated, the rear seat is small, and cabin noise is noticeable. That means the GR86 makes the most sense if you value road feel and sharp dynamics more than passenger space or quiet commuting.

With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop carefully and still find a competitive price.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 reliable?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is built around a simple, enthusiast-focused formula, and owners describe it as fun, nimble, and affordable. That kind of feedback points to a car you can count on for driving enjoyment if you buy a well-kept example.

The performance setup is straightforward, with a 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder, rear-wheel drive, and a limited-slip differential included regardless of transmission choice. That simplicity can be a plus for long-term ownership because there is less complexity than you might find in more heavily equipped performance cars.

Toyota also notes that the automatic-transmission version includes a broad set of driver-assistance features, which can add peace of mind in daily use. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a neglected car, especially one that has been driven hard without proper maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a sports coupe like this may have been driven more aggressively than the average used car. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any evidence of modifications or track abuse.

Pay close attention to the condition of the tires, brakes, suspension, and interior, since those areas can reveal how the car was treated. If you are comparing manual and automatic cars, make sure the transmission behavior and clutch feel are consistent with normal use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim includes manually adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, Ultrasuede upholstery accents, cloth seating, push-button start, power doors and windows, a digital speedometer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, two USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Premium trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, aluminum sport pedals, a leather gearshift boot, a leather parking brake boot, heated sport bucket seats, and leather-and-Ultrasuede upholstery.
• Powertrain: The GR86 uses a 2.4-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available six-speed automatic transmission, and the limited-slip differential is included regardless of gearbox choice.
• Safety package: The automatic-transmission model includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a fully digital instrument panel, and a six-speaker stereo. The Premium trim upgrades the stereo to an eight-speaker unit.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic-transmission model returns 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The manual-transmission model returns 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: Base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the GR86 experience at the lowest entry price. You still get the core enthusiast formula, including the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital speedometer, dual-zone automatic climate control, and the straightforward cabin layout that suits the car’s no-nonsense personality.
• Premium: This is the better choice if you want the most complete version of the car. It adds 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport 4 all-season performance tires, a duckbill rear spoiler, adaptive front headlights, larger brakes, heated sport bucket seats, upgraded upholstery, and an eight-speaker stereo.

The Premium trim is the best-value pick if you want the strongest mix of comfort, appearance, and equipment. The automatic-transmission model also gets the full driver-assistance suite, while the Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts everywhere.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 492 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,150, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $28,912 sits slightly above last year's $28,841.

That small increase suggests the GR86 has held its value fairly well. For you, that means the market is not showing signs of a sharp drop that would pressure resale values.

The steady pricing also points to consistent demand from enthusiast buyers. If you own one and keep it in good condition, you should have a reasonable chance of finding interested shoppers later.

Is the 2023 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2023 Toyota GR86 earned top marks across the board from IIHS, including a best score of Superior for its crash-prevention technology.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The automatic-transmission model includes pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, a lead-vehicle alert system, and high-beam assist. The Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel.

One important caveat is that these advanced driver-assistance features are tied to the automatic transmission, so the manual version misses out on that equipment. If safety tech matters to you, that trim and transmission choice is worth paying close attention to.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• The 2023 keeps the GR86’s enthusiast-focused formula intact with strong performance and a straightforward, driver-first layout.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $27,288, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $28,912 average.
• It introduced the redesigned GR86 with a more powerful engine and added tech features.

The bottom line: If you want the current-year car with stable pricing and solid inventory, the 2023 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the better value path as long as you are comfortable with its older model-year status.
