Is the 2023 Subaru Legacy reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview emphasizes standard all-wheel drive, a strong safety reputation, and a well-rounded comfort-oriented design, all of which support confidence in everyday use. It also notes a quieter cabin, a stiffer chassis, and improved ride quality, which are the kinds of traits that usually matter over time when you live with a car day to day. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a neglected example that has not been maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Subaru Legacy?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or deferred maintenance. Because the Legacy’s appeal is tied to its safety, comfort, and standard AWD, you’ll want to make sure the specific car you’re considering still reflects those strengths in its condition and service history. Pay close attention to overall cosmetic and mechanical condition, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Subaru Legacy?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 880 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.01% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,125, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $22,128 sits slightly below last year's $24,056.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell soon. If you purchase at a strong price and keep the car in clean condition, you’ll be better positioned when it’s time to resell. The Legacy’s broad appeal as a practical, safety-focused sedan should help support demand, especially among shoppers who value standard AWD.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

The bottom line:

If you want the freshest version of this generation’s formula, the 2023 is the right path because it combines standard AWD, a refreshed look, and strong buyer appeal at a lower average price than last year. If you’re mainly focused on stretching your budget, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 stands out when you want a balanced mix of value, condition, and market availability.
