CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Ford Mustang

Summary
With 2,735 currently listed for sale and an average price of $32,424, 33.5% of 2023 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford Mustang 5 / 5 stars.
85.2% of 2023 Ford Mustang listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Mustang stands out because it sits at the end of the sixth generation, a long-running version that was revealed in late 2013 and began production in the summer of 2014 for the 2015 model year. That generation kept the Mustang’s familiar coupe and soft-top convertible body styles, its rear-wheel-drive layout, and its global-market ambitions, while also introducing Ford’s EcoBoost engine lineup and an independent rear suspension as part of the redesign. For shoppers, that combination makes the 2023 Mustang appealing as a modern take on an iconic nameplate: it still delivers the classic Mustang formula, but with a broader range of engines and transmissions than earlier versions.
For 2023, the Mustang could be had with Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine, while other available engines included a 3.7-liter V6, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8. Transmission choices, depending on engine, included two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That breadth is one of the car’s biggest strengths, but buyers should also be aware that EcoBoost models are known for oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage. Used shoppers should also keep in mind that the average listing price for a 2023 Mustang is about $32,300, and that owners commonly praise its performance, styling, and value, while some note a lack of luxury features.

It doesn’t have a lot of luxury features but the active exhaust is great and for its age and mileage it was a good price.

Great car. Great color. Lots of extra features. Good value for what it has. Wish it had a spoiler. But no biggie. I love it. 1st v8. Hyped!

Reviewed a 2023 Ford Mustang on Jun 10, 2023
From a purely aesthetic standpoint the new Mustangs look like the classic muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s. It has that wide body and low to the ground appearance you expect from a Ford Mustang. This particular model with its “White Ice Appearance Package” is truly classy. But this vehicle is nothing like the Mustangs of the 60’s and 70’s. It has all the “Bells and Whistles” of the modern technology era! From its state of the art 12 LCD Digital IP CLUSTER, to its SAFETY/SECURITY conscious package this vehicle is truly a marvel and an utter joy to drive. As far as being a good value, I think Ford has done a fairly good job of giving the car buyer the most and best bang for his buck. They’ve incorporated the things people are looking for in a vehicle and done so at a reasonable cost to the consumer. From my point of view the EcoBoost Premium Fastback RWD with the 201A Optional Equipment Package leaves nothing out. It was a great deal for the price and it has everything that I need or even desired in a car.

| Year-Round Low | $28,727 |
| Year-Round High | $33,737 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $29,762 |

There are 2,720 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Ford Mustang earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its performance, styling, and value, and many also highlight the driving experience, the sound system, and the convertible option. That makes it especially appealing if you want a sporty coupe or convertible with broad enthusiast appeal and a recognizable nameplate. The market also shows 34.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many people enjoy living with over time, especially when it comes to performance and overall satisfaction. At the same time, used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and condition, since long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-kept example.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report and confirm that the car’s accident and title records are clean. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the engine, transmission, and overall condition, since those are the areas that matter most on a used performance car. It also helps to focus on how the car was maintained, because a clean-looking Mustang can still hide expensive issues if upkeep was neglected.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.
- Deal availability: 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,720 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.68% year-over-year.

If you find a listing below $28,727, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $32,346 sits slightly above last year's $29,762.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. If you choose a well-kept example and avoid overpaying, you may have a better chance of holding value when it’s time to sell. Strong demand in the listings market also helps keep the car visible to future buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 8.68% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $37,953, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,346 average.
- It adds a more modern cabin and updated tech.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2023 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer-feeling interior and updated technology, the 2024 is the better upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2023 is the easier recommendation.
