How much does the 2023 BMW M4 cost?

Prices have softened 4.47% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 374 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

The 2023 BMW M4 is a performance-focused coupe and convertible that keeps driving excitement at the center of the experience. It also brings real motorsport credibility, and the available manual transmission plus multiple body styles make it especially appealing if you want an enthusiast car with some flexibility.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, and the CSL version is limited in availability. Even so, the car’s handling focus and driver involvement make it a strong fit if you want a serious sports car rather than a comfort-first luxury coupe.

30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 BMW M4 is built around a performance-first formula, but it still carries the kind of engineering focus that can support confident ownership. Its twin-turbo six-cylinder setup is presented as a more efficient alternative to BMW’s older V8 M cars, and the model comes with a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty plus four years of roadside assistance with unlimited mileage.

The CSL’s lightweight hardware and more specialized setup make it the most extreme version, but also the one most likely to demand the most from a used buyer over time. If you want the least complicated ownership path, the standard M4 variants are the safer long-term bet.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a performance car like this can attract harder use than the average used coupe. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on tires, brakes, suspension wear, and signs of track or aggressive street driving. Pay close attention to condition differences between standard cars and the more specialized CSL.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard M4 emphasizes strong performance with a manual transmission and multiple body styles, while the CSL adds a more extreme, lightweight character with fixed-back carbon-fiber front seats and other weight-saving changes.
• Powertrain: The standard model uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 473 horsepower and a six-speed manual, while Competition versions raise output to 503 hp and use an eight-speed automatic; the CSL increases output to 543 hp and keeps the automatic.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a head-up display, and BMW iDrive 7.0.
• Fuel efficiency: The RWD M4 coupe and M4 Competition coupe are rated at 19 mpg combined (16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway), while the M4 Competition convertible and M4 CSL are rated at 18 mpg combined (16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway).

Which 2023 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M4 is offered in 4 trim levels: M4 coupe, M4 Competition coupe, M4 Competition xDrive coupe, and M4 CSL.

Here's the short version:

• M4 coupe: This is the best fit if you want the purest driver-focused setup, because it pairs 473 horsepower with a six-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. It also gives you the core M4 experience without stepping into the higher-priced Competition or CSL territory.
• M4 Competition coupe: This is the best-value trim if you want more speed and a richer performance envelope, since it raises output to 503 hp and uses an eight-speed automatic. It suits you if you want the strongest balance of everyday usability and extra pace.
• M4 Competition xDrive coupe: Choose this if traction matters most, because it adds all-wheel drive to the Competition formula. It’s the right pick if you want the quickest all-weather version of the standard lineup.
• M4 CSL: This is the most extreme choice, with 543 hp, major weight reduction, carbon-ceramic brakes, and track-focused hardware. It makes sense only if you want the rarest, hardest-edged version and can live with the compromises.

Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M4?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 374 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.47% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $71,569, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $72,152 sits slightly below last year's $75,525.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale performance may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than just the badge alone.

The CSL’s rarity may help it stand apart, but the broader market still rewards clean, well-kept examples with the right equipment. If you buy carefully, you should have a better chance of preserving value when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 safe?

The 2023 BMW M4 earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with standard lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of the Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models, so you may need to step up a trim or option package to get more advanced driver assistance.

Because this is a performance coupe and convertible, you should also keep in mind that the safety equipment list is not as generous as what you may find on mainstream models. That makes it especially important to check the exact feature content on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.47% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model year adds the hardcore M4 CSL, a rare lightweight performance variant capped at 1,000 units.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $69,766, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $72,152 average.
• It adds xDrive availability on the top-spec M4 Competition and brings strong traction-focused performance.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with the CSL’s exclusivity and a softer price trend, the 2023 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you still want the M4’s core performance character, the 2022 is the smarter value play.
