How much does the 2023 BMW M3 cost?

Prices have softened 2.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 334 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 BMW M3 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW M3 earns a 5/5 from users and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Safety.

The 2023 BMW M3 stands out because it blends sports-car performance, family-car usefulness, and luxury-car polish into one package. That makes it especially appealing if you want excitement without giving up everyday usability.

The trade-offs are clear: its design may be polarizing, its technology can be unintuitive, and road noise can be intrusive. Even so, the car’s high build quality and impressive materials help justify its premium positioning.

Only 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is selective rather than flooded with bargains.

Is the 2023 BMW M3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2023 BMW M3 is presented as a high-quality, well-built performance sedan that also works as a practical daily driver. Its broad appeal comes from combining serious driving enjoyment with luxury-car polish and family-car usefulness.

The performance side is described as smooth, refined, composed, and communicative, which supports confidence in how the car behaves over time. On the ownership side, it comes with a comprehensive warranty, roadside assistance, basic connected services, and complimentary scheduled maintenance for the duration of a typical lease, if not longer.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a high-performance car like this can be more sensitive to how it was driven and maintained, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a strong accident-free share does not guarantee the specific car you’re considering has a clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, and pay close attention to signs of hard use, tire wear, brake condition, and any evidence that the car was driven aggressively or modified.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the M3, M3 Competition, and M3 Competition xDrive. The standard M3 is the only one with a traditional manual transmission, while Competition models move to an eight-speed automatic and the xDrive version adds all-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: Every M3 uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. The standard version makes 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, while Competition models raise output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft.
• Safety package: The standard Active Driving Assistant includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, active blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Every M3 also includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, BMW Assist eCall with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency call button, automatic post-collision braking, and front and rear parking sensors. Competition models can add Driving Assistance Professional, which brings adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, evasive steering assist, Emergency Stop Assistant, Steering Assistant, and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: BMW Curved Display pairs a 12.3-inch digital instrument screen with a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system running iDrive 8. Standard equipment includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, connected services, navigation, and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 18.4 mpg on the evaluation loop, and the official EPA combined rating is 19 mpg.

Which 2023 BMW M3 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M3 is offered in 3 trim levels: M3, M3 Competition, M3 Competition xDrive.

Here's the short version:

• M3: This is the one to buy if you want the manual transmission and the purest version of the car’s character. It delivers the standard 473-hp twin-turbo inline-six, rear-wheel drive, and the most direct connection to the M3’s performance mission.
• M3 Competition: Choose this if you want more power and an automatic transmission. It adds 503 hp and the eight-speed automatic, making it the better fit if you value quicker acceleration and easier daily driving over the manual’s involvement.
• M3 Competition xDrive: Pick this if you want the most traction and the quickest straight-line performance. It adds all-wheel drive and is the most capable choice for buyers who want maximum all-weather confidence and the strongest performance envelope.

The standard Active Driving Assistant is included, while the more advanced Driving Assistance Professional package is available on Competition models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 334 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $79,893, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M3's resale value?

The current average of $81,134 sits slightly below last year's $82,789.

That modest decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may slightly soften what a future seller can expect. Even so, the drop is not dramatic, so the M3 still appears to hold value reasonably well for a performance sedan.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M3 safe?

The BMW 3 Series sedan on which the M3 is based gets high marks in all crashworthiness assessments from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), but the organization hasn’t published specific ratings for the M3 itself. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives the 3 Series sedan the highest possible ratings in all of its tests, including for rollover resistance, but does not apply these ratings to the M3 model.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard Active Driving Assistant includes forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, active blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Every M3 also includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist, BMW Assist eCall with automatic collision notification, an SOS emergency call button, automatic post-collision braking, and front and rear parking sensors.

Competition models can add Driving Assistance Professional, which brings adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, evasive steering assist, Emergency Stop Assistant, Steering Assistant, and Extended Traffic Jam Assistant. In practice, the standard system is effective and unobtrusive, though the lane-keeping assist can be assertive if you drift from your lane.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 model brings BMW Curved Display technology, a 12.3-inch instrument screen, a 14.9-inch touchscreen, and the standard 473-hp inline-six.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the right pick if you want the M3’s core formula with strong performance, everyday usability, and a slightly softer used-car price than last year. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth comparing, but the 2023 remains the better all-around choice if you value the latest cabin tech and the full breadth of the M3 experience.
